I come from a short table holdem and O8 background but after reading this forum for the last couple of monthes decided to try my hand at sng's. I was at 5/10 and have the bankroll to play at the 50's but decided to start at the 30's. I also play more O8 than holdem but after reading this forum decided to really give the holdem games a test ( speed of the games, ease of getting a game, most of the advise here being holdem ) This made me think the holdem games would be more profitable.

My results so far

holdem 121 1 table sng's net 57, ROI 1.43, 30% in the $, 16,13,8

O8 17, net 459, ROI 81.82, 47% in the money, 5,3,0

I am obviuosly a better O8 player ( which is true of my ring play also ). What do most people here think about the longterm profitability of playing the holdem's vs O8? Are my assumtions true of the two games? I have read both HOH books.

If you are a good enough player to talk about longterm profitability you should realize that both your sample sizes are pretty much insignificant. You need to play alot more befre if you want to find out which is more profitable for you, but afaik O8 games don't go off often enough to really be profitable? Correct me if i'm wrong.

If I remember correctly Irieguy talked about how he switched from O8 STT:s to NLHE and never looked back. I think his reason was the greater profitability in NLHE.

FOr SNG's I think 08 is a terrible way to go as your main game because of how many games are out there. If you feel like your a better 08 player then play the ring games if thats profitable for you. But Holdem is definetly the most profitable for sng's and I donte think its even close.

I realize the sample size is nothing but in my limited experiment it seems to me that at the 30's most O8 players have no idea what good tournment play is on the bubble or when the game gets short. Where in holdem it seems that some people understand it.

This may change as you move up but there are much fewer 50's O8 that go then 30's.
