View Full Version : Advice on new tournament format. (kinda long?)

OK, so i am absolutely trained in the pokerstars blind structure and freeze-out style of the tournaments that i play that i need some help with how to play an upsoming live tourney that i qualified for. Here's the stats...

210 players with 6000 in starting chips each, one re-buy allowed for $75. (im already invested 70 into the tournament for the qualifier). Pays top 20 with it weighted VERY heavily toward the top 3 (10,000-4,000-2,000-1,500 with 1000 to the rest of the final table). Blind levels are 20 minutes with the re-buy expiring after level 4.

Blind structure
25/50
50/100
100/200
200/400
500/1000
1000/2000
1500/3000
3000/6000
5000/10000.

Should i play "Day one" style of poker for the first four levels due the loose play the re-buys will cause to a point, or do these fast rising blinds force me to play a wider range of hands? Any comment would be very much appreciated.

the fact that 1st is 10k and 2nd only 2k you should be willing to rebuy early on and take close gambles to get a big stack to try and take you to first

edited the payout after looking up the website, does this change anything in your opinion?

i still think you should gamble because they are some big blind jumps like the one from 200/400 to 500/1000 so your gonna need to have a big stack by then to handle it

This is a half bump and a half thanks....i kinda thought those blind levels would turn this into a pushfest rather early. Any other thoughts??

If others are playing tight, play looser..if others are playing loose...play tighter.

Don't come to the game thinking "I'll play like this".

I think OP question is about how the payout structure should effect his strategy.
I believe that its crucial for a good player to adjust his game to payout-, blind-, (and player) structure.

i dont know what to say, the blind structure is crappy and payout top heavy so be ready to rebuy and build a stack early
