Well, I finally made it to the ft of a $33 rebuy tourney on empire. I got breated and called many names at the start of it because I "bought" 6000 chips. It was kinda funny having a 10k stack after the first 10 minutes when the next biggest was 3k. My first table was full of nits. There was one rebuy besides mine. It was the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Well, 10th place makes me $1 profit, so i'm a big winner no matter what. I only have 13 big blinds right now, so I am probably going to lose. /images/graemlins/frown.gif Just figured id brag a little about my tiny victory.

Oh yeah, it is the $10k guarenteed under special tournies.

Too bad the big stack is too your left, but good luck I have to start another set.

Good work with the rebuy strategy.

Yeah, it sucks because the big stack to me left calls EVERYTHING.

The empire guranteed daily are soft IMO, I have had some good success with them.

Even though only the top 5 or 6 would pay, for some reason people would get incredibly tight with 11 or so left just wanting to make the FT even though there is no money.

FJ, IIRC Empire used to charge you rake for each rebuy/addon. I am assuming they changed this, but can you confirm this?

FieryJustice
09-24-2005, 01:11 AM
They charge the normal rake for every rebuy...$3 each time in this one. Not a very good deal. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

What were you thinking of calling in the SB with a ~minraise, call, push in front of you?

everyone tells me this is bad. The way I look at it, if he calls, he just might have the worse hand and I will be in contention to win it. I would obviously rather him fold, but he is a calling station. Also, I have not pushed into him any since I got to the final table, I dont think. Maybe he didnt notice that. Oh well. It was probably a bad play.

K-S says this push is more than fine, in a +CEV sense... your stack is effectively tied for last I don't think there's any real reason for ICM to say anything different...

I think i push this too. I was watching the table (silently) and i didn't understand why everyone thought it was awful. You were in 2nd place by 9k chips. Thats not very much. It's still about 1/3 of the chip leader. Anyway, tough break that he had you dominated. Next time he'll have K9 and you'll suck out.

curtains
09-24-2005, 02:08 AM
It's quite possible that pushing was wrong. I suspect you could even use SNG power tools to answer this if you break everything down, and just treat it as a bubble situation. Not sure what the prize structure was exactly, but I know the jump from 4th-3rd is usually quite steep.

I think it was only about $200. All I know about FJ is that he plays the $215 SNGs (i know you know this, curtains) so i doubt this played into his consideration. No question he's playing for first here.

Thats irrelevant. As a SNG player, you should understand to play for whatever is the highest +EV, not "play for first".

There wasnt a huge difference between 3rd and 4th. The only reason I might have folded here was because I might could have squeaked into 2nd. I feel like it was the right play if the big stack was observant and remembered I never pushed into him. I feel as if it was an iffy push.

Well, I dumbly decided to play the $11 rebuy on Empire...I am the chip leader right now, and have been all tourney, going into the final table. I have to get 5th to make any monre /images/graemlins/frown.gif I rebought 7 times and took the add on. Oh well..maybe I will spend 4 hours to win $300...that would be....nice.

Also, I have to wonder if buyins a big stack is actually a +ev play in the long run. Like in the $33 earlier, I had to get 10th to break even out of a field of 150 or so. Here, I have to get 5th out of 60. I am thinking it will only take one loss to put you behind. I guess I just see that if I take 1st, I am only getting back 4x by buyin. Thats worse than a sng and it takes a lot longer. Anyways, I think I am going to play a few of these tomorrow and if all goes well, I just might buy a stack in the $250 rebuy on Sunday.

09-24-2005, 07:22 AM

EDIT: Nvm, was looking at 11+ not 10+

I don't think it is dumb. I think it is a great way to get some variation into your poker. Just think of it as a reward for grinding SnGs.

Of course joining a 10+1 during the slow hours will probably mean that you don't get all that excited by the prize money.

it is amazing how every time i bet with a good hand he folds and every time i bet something like mid pair, he has a higher kicker.

The shitty part is that i miss every single draw I have. If i could just hit one or 2 hands, I am pretty sure I could get his stack. Its like he basically wins every hand and i dont know wtf to do about it. So far I have been totally pwned like never before from a guy in a $11 game...that says a lot for my skills.

I think I have it figured out. I dont know if I have enough chips to make it work though /images/graemlins/frown.gif He will fold to small bets but they have to be different than the ones before them. Like i was betting on the flop earlier, then he started calling everyone. So, I started betting on the turn...then he called them. Well, now he seems to fold to the flop bets again. I guess i will just try to change it up and not lose too quickly.

09-24-2005, 09:13 AM
I can't figure out what this guy's thought process is

"We play every single hand unraised preflop, now I'll push for 25BB, hope he calls!" ???

I think at that point he was just trying to stop the momentum. Fiery had won about 8/10 pots before that.
