I am dealing with a VERY bad downstreak/breakeven.
This month I have played 420 SnG's mostly 33's and I am down $54, this is after doing 12% over 1600 22's. Is till ahve 60 buyin left in my roll so if I go broke it will be apparant that I am not a winning SnG player. I just want you all to feel sorry for me.

After 425 SnG's I am up $8, Holla! Looks like im goin pro after all. I'm gonna withdrawl 10% of this months profit for a nice car downpayment. So far I'm lookin at $0.80, anyone know of a good car to get for about $1.00. (if all goes well).
P.S. I am more bitter and sarcastic right now than anyone on the planet. I really need to relax, Irieguy's downswing post and Irieguys medecine should do the trick.

Given that you could only manage 12% over 1600 $22s, I think your time would be better spent looking for leaks than worrying about variance. All the same, good luck to you.

Can you give me some advice for leak finding? I have been playing supertight early then pushboting in the later part of the game. I get called by guys drawign to 3 outs and they hit, religiously. I am just curious as to what some of the leaks you found in your game as a begginer? I am soooo jealous that people can do >20% ROI over thousands of SnG's. This seems impossible to me at this point.

P.S. the thing that sucks about my 22 stats is that I coudl go on a heater for the next 200 and my ROI would jump closer to 20% at which point leaks would not be as much the issie as variance. I was doing 24% at the 33's for my first 200 and now after 550 I am at only 10%. I think i am just barely a winner at poker and over the last year it has been downswing after downswing with a very modest amount of profit along the way. I guess I just might not be cut out for this game. Although making $7,000 so far this year keeps me from quitting. Sometimes I ahve sick thoughts of just going broke so I can walk away and say, I am aloser at poker. Man, variance is sick. Point blank.

12% over 1600 $22's... that's not good enough to expect to beat the $33's for any real money. Especially if your set of 1600 didn't include a 50+ buy-in drop. If you never had a bad spell during that set, it's likely that your true expected ROI at that level is a bit lower.

The $33's are quite a bit tougher than the $22's, and personally, I wouldn't play them unless I "knew" that my expected ROI at the $22's was over 20%.

So, you are going to need to get better before you complain any more about variance.

If all you do is fold early and push late, you won't lose much at any level but you probably can't acheive more than 15% ROI at any level either. How do you find your leaks and improve your game? Find a good player (not me) to watch your HHs and let you know where you are missing spots and pissing away chips.

And keep reading.

Good luck,

Irieguy
