Another monopoly question

Which color do you think is the best monopoly?

I think orange is the best, and red is a close second. The orange are relatively cheap to build up, but they can still really hurt people when they land on them.

The red are good cause people land on them A LOT (I think this was actually proven in a simulation), but they are expensive to build up.

The correct color designation is "maroon."

The correct answer is orange. It's definately landed on the most because of 'Go to jail' and all of the Chance and Community Chest cards that send people to that near vicinity. If you can get the orange monopoly and have about a grand to build it up, you're a sure winner.

This isn't really up for debate. There's actually strategy books out explaining why orange is clearly the best color. I think there's even been a thread in this forum about it.

The way I play, anytime you have to pay out something in Chance, or Com. Chest i.e doctors fee, or crap like that, and get out of jail fee.. that goes in the Free parking fund. Anyone lands on free parking, takes whats there.

The best monopoly is light blue and purple - the jail corner. 1000 for three hotels on light blue. No one can [censored] with me once I get it. After light blue I get purple, then I get Baltic and Mediteranian. The expensive monopolies are for idiots. You spend all your money on yellow and blue and you have no money left to pay me when you land on my property.

I like yellow and green because of the looks on people's faces when they land on them. at first, they're relieved when they first think they're safe from going to jail. then reality sets in and they realize that they've landed on my yellow or green monopoly.

Yeah orange is the most landed on monopoly, but Illinois (red) is the most landed on square besides jail.

We had the free parking cash rule as well. And your strategy is exactly what I did, build up that corner. It's cheap to build on, and when you own a whole corner it's tough for people to miss at least one of your properties.

Of course, I haven't played in more than fifteen years.

ok, im regged as voltron87. i'll create a 4 player game. right now its table 69.

My personal favorite is yellow because it is still affordable but you get earn a large rent from it. I don't particulary like Green/Boardwalk. Orange is also good. I've never heard the logic why Orange is the best.

Free Parking: 200 minimum pot + all fines and taxes. You win it by either landing there or rolling snake eyes. You get an additional 500 if you roll snake eyes to get into free parking. That's how we play.

In my undergrad, we were always playing cards, but for a while we played Monopoly pretty heavily and it got to be pretty cutthroat. Whatever game we played, though, my idiot freshman-year roommate would always always always lose in disastrous fashion. He was terrible at every game - he had no ability to think more than one step ahead. Invariably, if he was playing Monopoly, the whole game hinged on who he gave his entire portfolio to in order to get Boardwalk. He would completely blow the whole game because whoever got the deal with him ended up gaining such a huge advantage that he would win probably 95% of the time.

The other great part about it was that he's about 6'4" and the gooniest motherfucker you've ever seen, as well as the second most easily aggitated person I know. This meant there were two key moments in every game. The first being when he sold the farm for Boardwalk and the second being when he blew up because he landed on some hugely developed property and didn't have the cash to pay for it and destroyed the table.

I usually look to scoop up light blue and orange as quickly as possible. Once you get the light blue's you can hotel them for super cheap and start building a bankroll to build on the orange. I'm willing to give up dark blue and greens in trades for these, as long as that person is more or less broke after the trade.

Simply put. The two most common squares for a player to be moving off of are Go and Jail. In terms of probability of dice rolls the most probable is 7 (community chest) then 6 and 8, which is the orange and light blue properties. It's more rare to make it to the later parts of the board without catching a card to take you somewhere else or going to jail.

I haven't played in years, but I had a double minor in college of Monopoly and Hearts.
I won a huge percentage of monoply games, probably close to 75%, and my focus was always orange. I would trade much more expensive protperties early to get the orange.
I was also extremely successful at hearts, finishing first in my class there as well.
My major was alcohol comsumption. Another first in class.

Unfortunately my college rerquired attendance at other classes. things there did not go as well, while I did not 'technically" flunk out, I did get a letter suggesting that I take a year off and decide why I wanted to be in school......not a lot of jobs valued my strengths...
I"m not sure I ever won monoply without the orange....hhhmmmm, maybe occasionally.....suckouts.

damn that was actually pretty fun.

the game is kind of buggy when a player gets knocked out, but otherwise fun. i definitely would play a 2p2 game, maybe in a week or so.

I play there a bit when I only want to play a single table of poker. 'McBagpipe' Rating +1400. No fines, double salary, short game, or any other BS rules in my games. But I like the auction option, makes you have to manage your money even better.

Orange is the colour, of course. The funny thing is when I have a set and my opponent doesn't, they want to trade. They get mad when I say, "why the hell would I, this one is over."

On that games.com they have a scrabble game I tried a few times but it is too hard to tell if people are cheating or not. The scrabble dictionaries are too good. Plunk in seven letters plus your build-off letter and it gives you every possible word. Forget it.

a game of monopoly can take forever to complete. i wasn't suggesting that you add layers upon layers of complexity in order to have a rewarding game experience. there are lots of games that are at least as simple as monopoly that are fun, have a predictable game length, and are far more rewarding toward strategy/tactics (although luck is still a present and fun factor).

Dave bought Park Place early and then landed on Boardwalk. However, he was very low on funds. He needed to mortgage properties in order to buy Boardwalk. Instead, he put the property up for auction and I stole it from him.

Then, just a couple minutes later, jstngrs had an opportunity to buy his third red property and made the same mistake.

They've both thrown away monopolies.
