I was going around 20-30mph around a corner at night when I hit a manhole cover that was recessed. Went flying like superman and slid at least 10-15 feet on the asphalt. At least.
Get x-rays if you hit it pretty hard.
Oh yeah, and curiously, my insurance rate didn't go up that much afterward.

If the swelling does not come down in a couple days, get it check out.
Nice job on the fall! I have not done the fallen at the stop sign thing but I did do the bike lay down which took out a few layers of skin on my hip, I'll take busted knee over road rash anyday.

fwiw i didnt mean i fell while sanding at a stopsign, as i was brakeing for the stopsign i unknowingly hit a patch of gravel and dumped my bike. i think i was going about 30-40.
my knee is dow at least two or three layers in one part, but on both my forearms i have the rash. the road rash is actually worse then having your knee immobilized.
and when i said i felt some bone floating i ment asides from my kneecap, like a sliver by itself.
all in all very /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Maybe you should get your knee checked out. Is the bike badly scratched?
