View Full Version : miami32's 1,000 SNG challenge in 5 days

miami32
09-23-2005, 05:32 AM
Well here goes nothing.

In the next 5 days I will play 1,000 SNG tourneys. I will start with a $120 bankroll. Every time I hit 30 buy ins for the next level I will move up. So when I hit $330 I will move up to the 10+1's and so on. I will post the results as I go along. Please feel free to encourange, nit, or whatever.

My wisdom teeth get removed at 8 this morning so I figure I should be good to go at 4pm by the latest.

Good luck to me!

How many tables will you be playing simultaneously?

09-23-2005, 06:17 AM
1000 in 5 days ... you're crazy, I can't even sustain 60 a day let alone 200.

But good luck, I think you will need it.

miami32
09-23-2005, 06:20 AM
between 4 and 8 at a time. 8 at the start of the day but as time goes on I feel like I will cut down to 4. Also the second a table goes down, I will replace it.

I don't think you will make it if you only 8 table. If you average 40 minutes per SNG, 8 games will take approx 40 mins. 1000/8 = 125 sets. 125 sets at 40 minutes per set is 83 hours. That's 17 hours a day.

Yep. I had assumed OP was 12 tabling and thought it was a stretch but 8 tabling this is highly, highly improbable. Best of luck on however many you play, though.

Well, I'm going to try my best. I'm gonna be all kinds of messed up because of my wisdom teeth so I figure this will keep me occupied. I could play for 17 hours I feel like. I've done it live and at least I have a goal. So I guess I will keep you updated.

8 tabling usually averages at about 10 tables/hr so it would take 100 hours.
20 hours/day is more like it /images/graemlins/smile.gif

This challenge is impossible 4-8 tabling.

Good luck though.

Well, good luck. I think you'll need it. I can barely even stay awake for 17 hours a day. It'll be interesting to see how high stakes you get up to. Also how your ROI will differ from your normal ROI. Don't lose your mind.

Well sir, goodluck in your quest. But how the hell can you stare at a screen for 20 hours a day? Your eyes are going to be little pieces of goo by the time you've finished, not resembling eyes at all. I guess though with the profits you make you can spend it all on laser eye surgury after. Let us know how it goes.

09-23-2005, 06:42 AM
This wouldn't only be tough mentally, but physically too. Have you never heard of Korean men who play an online game for XX hours in a row, and then die on the spot? Of course you'll get some sleep (although I bet you won't sleep that well) but you should still watch out, I think. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'd buy some more monitors and 20 table, and then have breaks, eat good food and sleep. Then at least you would live through it without a hate for poker. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not to rain on your parade, but there's no chance you're going to pull this off. I will take a prop bet from anyone for any amount of money that says you will not complete 1000 SNGs in 5 days. It would be the easiest money I ever made. 100 SNGs in one day will make you insane, how do you suppose you'll be able to do 200 a day for FIVE days? Why not try to do 500 in 5 days. That's still going to leave you with some serious brain malfunction if you actually completed them, but it's much more realistic.

Nicholasp27
09-23-2005, 10:44 AM
u do realize that if you never get above 5s the entire time, that the extra 50 cents you are paying in rake by playing 5/1 instead of 10/1 will add up to $500?!?

do u really wanna give up $500 for free?

if u are seriously gonna play a large amount of sngs, play 10/1...or go to a site that has 5/.50

don't just throw away up to $500 like that...

and do u have rakeback on your account? if you play 10/1s, that's $250 in rakeback alone...

no rb+5/1s = $750 in free money you are throwing away

if you are gonna do it, do it right

Mr_J
09-23-2005, 01:21 PM
You won't make it if you play any less than 8tables. Running 8 tables continuously will still take 18hrs a day. Playing 12hrs a day for a few days straight is pushing it. You will have to literally play every minute you are awake. Maybe a couple of minutes to shower (my showers take 30mins), and eat while you play, crap while you play. 1000 in 2 weeks woulda been a better challenge. If you do it, then good for you I guess.

I'm willing to make a bet, but not on this. On the weekends, I am completely free. From 7 pm Friday night to Monday morning 7 am. How many SNGs do you think I could do/how much would you be willing to bet? (I would at most be 8 tabling)

1,000 SNG in 5 days
200 SNG in 1 day

1 sng - 1 hour (i'm just averaging, i know its prolly closer to 45-50 min)
4 tabling - 50 hours, impossible
8 tabling - 20-25 hour, possible, but not sustainable
12 tabling - 16 hours, doable but you will go insane
16 tabling - 12 hours
20 tabling - 10 hours (max you can start out doing because of your bank roll)

Drop your requirements a bit, try 100 a day. And I think you may want a bigger bankroll.

Good luck.

miami32
09-23-2005, 02:18 PM
Guys,

First off, I do have a bigger bankroll, so if I lose the 120 I will be ok. I just decided to do that to make it interesting. I'm actually going to start out at the 10+1s because 5 dollar SNG just aren't going to do it. Also, this is just something I came up with to help me pass the time after getting my wisdom teeth taken out. I plan on doing the best I can but this is not life or death. I'm going for 200 a day but if I can only make 100-150 it's ok. Well I start now.

BadMongo
09-23-2005, 02:18 PM
Hahahaha... this is a joke right?

There's no way you can pull this off if you're only 8 tabling, unless you for some reason don't require sleep. Even then, I'd still bet against you.

Nicholasp27
09-23-2005, 02:20 PM

I will lay odds that you will not get this done unless you plan on 12 tabling, and even then, it will be very difficult.

He's not giving updates because he probably played about 100 SNGS and got his face beat in....BECAUSE HE PLAYED 100 SNGS THE DAY HE GOT HIS WISDOM TEETH EXTRACTED!?!?!?

If he really wants to go do something dumb, he should take out his gauze and eat peanuts all day, maybe he'll get dry sockets. That would just as painful as playing 100+ SNGS in a day with medicine head and would cost a lot less money.

That or maybe he can get one of his friends to kick him in the balls repeatedly. Either one of these would be a better idea than this dumb challenge and cost less money.

Last night I got in 182 SNG tournaments. I have yet to put them in poker tracker because all the summaries are sitting in my yahoo account but here is the gist of it. 182x$11=2002 investment. ROI=37% +$740.

As for my wisdom teeth. I got the bottom and top left side removed. It didn't hurt that bad. They didn't cut them out, they just pulled them out. Not to bad really. I'm on the high end tylenol, and saving the vicadin. I've been able to function pretty well.

I went to bed at 5 in the morning last night and have just woke up. I will start playing at 6 I guess and go till whenever I stop.

As for if I'm winnning SNG player, yes I am. I normally play ring games, but I needed a break. I normally 4 table between 10/20 and 15/30. I started playing SNG about three months ago and lurking in this part of the forum. I do really well in 10-30, pretty good in the 50, 100s ok, and I flat out get torn up in the 200s. I don't think I'm a winning player at the 200 level.

I think that pretty much sums up all the questions. Talk to you guys later

miami32
09-24-2005, 03:49 PM
Oh and I'm playing 20+2 today. And make no doubt about it the ROI at the end of the day is def. suffering. Also, I have adopted a strategy that if I get short stacked early, I go into auto move in mode to either get lucky or bust out fast and move on to the next SNG.

It is not that you can't do it. No one can do it when 8-tabling. The point of a challenge is that the goal is reachable through hard work. But when you throw a silly number out it makes me wonder about your basic math skill. Didn't you figure out that to reach your goal you would have to non-stop 8-table for 100 out of 120 hours?

ebaudry
09-24-2005, 06:33 PM
IMHO, it can be done.

Would it be reasonable to assume 30-50% more games played in the continuous fashion as opposed to sets? Seems like that could get your there. Anyone done any math on the continuous play method?

I would agree that it's not a great idea though. I personally have stupid poker dreams after I play for 10-12 hours, let alone for consequtive days. I don't really like waking up thinking "damn, why did i limp off 1/4th of my stack on Lvl. 6??? Oh, I was dreaming!"

Best of luck though if this is important to you. I truly believe you can do it.

I don't know what seems so unrealistic about it. I avg 40 minutes per game. That is about 12 games per hour 8 tabling. Do that 12 hours a day = 144 games per day.

Do that * 7 days and you got 1008 games. It is a lot of work but it's definitely possible and if you have someone with a real good work ethic how can work 15 hours a day (I am not one of those people btw) that is 1260 games.

This makes me want to start my own challenge.

Remove all sharp objects!

I'm never a fan of these kinds of challenges because you're trying to cram as many games in as possible over hours and hours. Your game will surely degrade. Not good for mental or physical health and you'll burn yourself out.

That being said, good luck!

100 down today so far. I'm gonna take a break for now. That brings the total to about 282. Be back in an hour.

I wonder how long it would take Raptor to do 1000 tables if he 20 tabled continous and worked many hours. dont know how someone could 12 - 20 table for 10 -12+ hours for 5 days straight. Good Luck Miami, I believe you can do it but not sure if you will or not yet.

I got my wisdom teeth pulled and the next day went to Game 5 of Pistons vs Nets 2 years ago. Id say getting them pulled affects one person way differently than another. I could played tons of poker when I got mine taken out. I felt pretty good. Anyways good luck Miami.

miami32's 1000 in 5 day challenge:

Over 675:
(EVEN) O
(-110) U

Over 1000:
(-500) U
(+485) O

Who's taking what?

I've knocked out 36 more which brings my total to 136 for the day. I'm 2 cases of redbull in and it's time to take a break for an hour. I will check out some of the posts and make a couple of replies but my back hurts and I need to get out of this chair. So replies, then 1 hour, break, and the more sitngos.

I no longer have to get my tonsills taken out. The infection cleared up and they gave me the option of doing it or not doing it. I choose not. As for my blog, I hardly update and when I do it usually doesn't make sense.

09-25-2005, 04:56 AM
That's pretty funny. If I were to actually make the odds rights now based upon how I feel and how I've done it would go more like this-

Over675:
-750(o)
+500(u)

Over1000:

+400(O)
-750(U)

If you are confident that 675 isn't the even over/under, what do you think it is now?

You have consumed 2 cases of Red Bull in under 3 days?

I hope you are talking about 4 packs or (do they have 6 packs)? It can't be the Sams Club 24 packs?

Aren't you hopped up on Oxycodone/Hydrocodone pain killers after getting your teeth pulled? Well, good luck and make sure to get a few hours of sleep.

I already said something like that. Sad thing is that you hear news like that every few weeks or months. (People in asia are CrAzY.)

But miami, you're doing good so far, and I hope you will do good in the rest of the challenge. Ignore all the people who say it can't be done.. Oh, and stop when you are feeling sick and dizzy and stuff, or when you feel a heart attack coming. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

"don't let some of these people discourage you"

Discourage?? He wanted to play 1000 sngs in 5 days 4-8tabling, and people should be surprised since this is almost impossible. Even if he was 8tabling continuously (ie not sets) he'd need to play for 18 hrs each day. He shouldn't have been surprised about the reaction he got. I don't think he'll make it, but who cares. He wants to play a shitload in 5 days and it looks like he'll do it. 500, 1000, both pretty big numbers.

Mr. J,

Yeah I do have a larger bankroll. I decided to make things interesting by having a small amount and see if I would work my way up. Basicly win alot or go broke yah know. This changed as soon as I decided to go with the 10+1 to start. It was just a silly number I came up with.

I am willing to wager any amount of $1000 that I can complete 1000 SNGs in 5 days 24*5 hrs = 120hrs.

If anyone is looking for this action we can plan accordingly for December.

That would give you like 300 freebies at the 5+1's where you could just join and push every hand if you are going to lose the bet.

So if anybody takes this, there should probably be a limit on how low you can play.

Mr_J
09-25-2005, 08:13 PM
How many tables are we talking??? 1000 in 5 days is definately doable for a 12 tabler, but almost impossible for an 8tabler. Raptor could probally do it in 3 days (and then die).

16+ tables would be too easy.

I'd do it at the $20s 12 tabling. Not during the semester as I'd have no time. I'd take it seriously. I think I have the mental stamina to complete this grind, however, I'm not sure PT can handle such an influx of information /images/graemlins/cool.gif

I'm stopping the challenge at 540. I just woke up today and I want to do anything except poker. I'm going to a strip club. Yeah, thats right. Night Shift here I come.

The actual results are 540 total SNGs. ROI 33%. The levels played 10+1,20+2,30+3. I'm also willing to pay anyone to load all the data from my yahoo acount into pokertracker. That is going to pretty much take a day to load as is.

Thanks to everybody for the support. I think this thread ended up taking a life of its own. BTW anyone on the party network who can guess my sn?
