Hello all, I have built a small website that I placed on freewebs.com. In 5 days that the site has been up, I have twice found the server to be down. So I am looking for a better place to put the site. I don't mind paying a small fee if I can get a decent domain name, good web stats, easy interface, etc. Any recommendations?

Check out http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/

This is where I host a small site and it is pretty cheap and reliable.

1and1.com advertises extensively in the computer mags and I have been checking it out for a couple sites I am contemplating. They have both MS and Linux hosting and have a variety of packages that include domain names and email accounts. Also they have site building tools which you can presumably use if you don't build the site yourself through Frontpage or other programs. I would be interested to know if anyone else here has had experience with them.

I have had experience with them.

I had a site hosted there for 3 years, it was okay for a beginner host, the CPanel was kinda weak though and their username password setup was cumbersome. Not bad all in all though.

When you say their password setup was cumbersome, do mean because you have to specify different levels of access for different directories? I am especially interested in being able to have a hierarchy of password access for users and also the requirement on the first page to login in order to keep web crawlers from indexing the pages. Also do you have another hosting company that you would prefer?

I have been using and recommending hostexpress.com for many years. They are the best IMO.

I have a blog based site that I went into knowing very little about what I was doing. So with a priority on customer service and support, I chose

http://laughingsquid.net/

They were on a list on wordpress.org, bur I mainly chose them because they cater to artists and nonprofits, and so were likely to be tolerant of folks new to dealing with a site. I've been very satisfied.

On the wordpress help forums another host that gets consitently high marks from more experienced users is
