There are 8 different statistics books, 6 different geometry books, and 3
different trigonometry books. A student must select one book of each type.
How many different ways can this be done?

For each stats book he can pick any of 6 geo books and 3 trig books. This is pretty basic, 8*6*3= 144.

You can visualize it by drawing a tree of all the different books and then counting the total number of paths, though you might want to use smaller numbers cause it could get messy with these.

Thanks. That's what I thought the answer was but I was confusing myself.
