Thomas Lynch, poet and funeral director, has a great chapter on bringing the outhouse inside in his book The Undertaking. He writes that Crapper's invention moved outdoor functions inside the home, and caused occasions, such as weddings and funerals, which were formerly held inside the home, to be moved outside.
