I'm going to begin to relive the 80s & 90s vircariously through the music which was produced & written. Its likely, I'll start a blog and 'share' with you what I have found. I ask for help in rock n roll & rap so I know what people were listening to. I choose to start with 1987 because this is when Guns N Roses became famous and their music kicked ass.

So I want my live to include U2, Metallica, Notorious, 2Pac, Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, and anything else.

If anyone can help in compiling this chronlogically, that would be super.

the mid to late 80s had some awesome music. Virtually all of your examples are considered great because of what they did after the timeframe. Do some research bud.

What exactly are you looking for? What songs/albums people were actually listening to in 1987, like a cultural snapshot? Or simply the best music produced in that year? Both?

I love 80's music, but 1987 was not a great year. All I could come up with (other than U2, which dominated 1987 IMO):

"Big Time".....Peter Gabriel
"It's A Sin".....Pet Shop Boys
"Brilliant Disguise".....Bruce Springsteen
"Mandolin Rain".....Bruce Hornsby and the Range
"Something So Strong".....Crowded House
"Land Of Confusion".....Genesis - what an awesome video

Dont know what you are looking for, but 1987 reminds me of The Cult Electric. Great underated and little talked about band and album.

This list is very good. I don't have much to add, as this covers most of it.

The Smiths - Strangeways, Here We Come
(Louder Than Bombs also came out in '87, and IMO is the greatest collection by a band ever, but it's a greatest hits.)
Pet Shop Boys - Actually

And some rap...

Public Enemy - Yo! Bum Rush The Show
Eric B & Rakim - Paid In Full
LL Cool J - Bigger and Deffer
