View Full Version : JJ from SB big multiway pot

Played this hand a couple of days ago. I've spent a couple of days thinking about this whole session, but this hand sticks out. I'm half and half as to whether I played it well.

Reads:
BB 66/0/1.0
UTG 16/7.6/2.8
UTG+2 30/0/1.33
MP1 42/0/0
MP2 72/5.56/0.29
CO 67/3.54/0.45
Button 63/2.84/0.81

BB has a wide starting range, and calls down anything from bottom pair onwards.

I've played about 200 hands against UTG this session, and he generally folds where I show any aggression - if he doesn't he's usually got me beat.

The rest of 'em are paying off UTG and myself with outstanding displays of muppetry.

River: (20.50 BB) 3/images/graemlins/heart.gif (3 players)

I figure he's got a pair of eights and isn't paying any attention to anyone else, or more likely I'm up against trips, as it fits his passive/aggressive pattern when he makes that hand. I decide to check/call the river.

Hero checks, BB bets, CO folds, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 22.50 BB

Anyone care to critique?

I would check-raise the flop.

looks good to me. The only real way to protect here is to bet the flop and hope UTG raises to face the field with calling two cold. It looks like the BB drew out on you but I like either bet/call or check/call the river.

That river is an awesome card for you, because now you beat a bunch of wonky 2-pair hands (65/86/85). Bet/call.

This is very, very bad. Look at our relative position to the other guy who might bet.

I didn't for two reasons:

1) Given the preflop action it will be checked right round the table. If I bet, it will be called right round the table, because everyone thinks the pot owes them something. The table has played this way for the last hour.

2) I want information about UTG. I'm in front, but he's most likely on AQ, AJ, ATs, KQ, KT, KTs or 88-TT. If he fancies himself, he'll raise, if not he's folding and won't bother me later when an overcard lands. If I check, he'll follow because if we have a passive flop there will be many more bets on the turn and I'll be none the wiser as to his strength. He's got position on me for the turn. I've played 1500+ hands against this guy so I figure I know his moves pretty well.
