I don’t. but I wish I did. It would help have helped me sleep better this week.

The Dalai Lama is giving a speech here in Austin. The tickets to the event were free and people camped out overnight in order to get the tickets to see him. People are now selling the tickets as high as $179.

I don’t have any real interest in going I just find trying to scam a buck off the Dalai Lama to be in poor taste. maybe karma does exist and these people will break their pinkies playing basketball. or maybe theyre just enterprising young fellows who know how to make an honest dollar.

Either way, I’d like to snap their pinkies myself. Not quite in the spirit of the Dalai Lama but then again, I don’t have $179 to hear his lecture.

wow!!! that's pretty shitty of people! I don't believe in Karma, but that doens't make it any more morally right or less illegal to sell tickets for more than they were originally purchased for.

Selling stuff for more than cost? Think, man - where would it end?! You'd have people all over the place buying and selling stuff, trying to make a profit!!

Instant Karma's gonna get you
Gonna knock you right on the head
You better get yourself together
Pretty soon you're gonna be dead
What in the world are you thinking of
Laughing in the face of love
What on earth are you trying to do
Well it's up to you
Yeah you

Instant karma's gonna get you
Gonna look you right in the face
Better get yourself together darlin'
Join the human race
How in the world are you gonna see
Laughing at fools like me
Who in the hell do you think you are
A superstar?
Well allright you are

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Everyone
Come on

Instant karma's gonna get you
Gonnn knock you right off you're feet
Better recognize your brother's
Everyone you meet
Why in the world are we here
Surely not to live in pain and fear
Why on earth are you there
When your'e everywhere
Come and get your share

Instant karma's gonna get you

actually the op said "poor taste" which I don't necessarily disagree with. babyblues talked about the morality of it. it's definitely not immoral in my view.

Oh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your death bed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that going for me, which is nice.

generally "stuff" is sold above cost if there is actually a service being provided. it's a hard pill to swallow going from $0 to $179 to see His Holiness who is speaking for free.

I don't believe in karma. People use it all the time as a buzzword without taking into account the religious meaning behind the expression. Often these are the same people who otherwise profess to be Christian or atheist and don't see the contradiction in thier beliefs. I find this kind of annoying.

As for the Dalai Lama thing, that's his own fault for giving stuff of value away for free. Why couldn't he have just sold the tickets himself and given the money to charity or something.

The legality of scalping tickets depends on the state.

I think it's morally wrong to let some yuppie keep his money if he wants to go see the Dali Lama. That whole craze is a Hollywood construct for people with more money than sense.
