I have 100 bucks and am new to onlinepoker. I have played some freerolls and some play money stt's to get a feel for it and the pace. What is the best way to invest my 100 dollars online. I have played NL almost exclusively in my poker career and have made some good money playing live poker and i really would like to try my luck at online stt's. what site should i use what stakes should i play at, etc. i know it will be awhile with 100 bucks before i really start making my time worthwhile but i would like a little advice getting started.

With such a TINY/TINY/TINY bankroll do not play higher than .05/.10 NL. If you disregard this advice, you'll be making a classic mistake that 95% of all poker players make. You can either learn from other's mistakes or lose your $100 when some fish hits a 2-outer on you. Your choice.

I completely agree...

If you plan on playing MTT's, don't play any with a buy-in over $5.

STT's you should be playing the $5 or under range...

As for the site, if you're good at the cheap SNGs, put it in PokerStars. Their $5 SNGs favor a good, patient player.

If you must play NL ring, you might want to put it in at Absolute, where there's a 150% deposit bonus right now and their .05/.10 NL seems popular.

Be prepared to lose that $100. I don't care how good you are, or how good you think you are.

Actually, you can start with this little and build a roll. I started with only $50 over a year ago, and with smart bankroll management, bonus whoring, and solid (though not spectacular) play, since then I have built it up into several K. Yeah I started at the nanos... but it can be done.

But as far as the fastest way to build up a lot of money, you are right -- $500 IS the magic number. But patience and table hours along with hitting some of the smaller bonuses can yield results. Casino.net has a pretty sweet and clearable bonus I have heard. I recommend the OP go the bonus forum here and search for the thread on casino.net.

Be very careful following these guidelines. They are outdated and you will effectively lock up yr money for a couple of weeks if you hit the Crypto skins as he recommends (with a high risk of ruin).

Take the $100 and deposit it on PokerStars. They have $5 and $1 stt's (as well as mtt's). Once you've built up a few hundred bucks, you might want to move to Party (and skins).

That depends on whether you 1) love poker, and 2) are decent at poker.

There are plenty of nanolimit games at which you can steadily build a roll, while getting the added benefit of learning to play poker against low-stakes Internet opponents.

Then you can take your bigger roll and start playing microlimit games at sites with deposit bonuses, killing two birds with one stone.

I did Poker School Online for a while, which let me play online against people who were usually trying to play well and somewhat knowledgeable. also there are articles and forums. it was well worth the money for me. most others on ehre didn't like it as much from what I've seen. but it's perfect for those who want to play online but don't have the money. in 2 or 3 months, when you've gotten better, maybe you can save up to $200 and try something out. your $100 now will probably go fast

I recommend Bodog. They have microstakes games and soft SNGs. Their deposit bonus is unusual in that you get to play with the bonus money immediately (and you get a bonus on each deposit). You should play NL $10 and $5 SNGs as you clear the bonus.

The downside is that your money will be locked up until you clear the bonus or decide to forfeit it. However, the games are soft, and the bonus clears rapidly enough at SNGs (it gives you 100% of the rake back, so you clear $0.50 for each $5+0.50 tournament).

You may also want to consider UltimateBet and PokerStars. These are larger sites that have games with even smaller stakes. It is very slow to clear their bonuses in microstakes ring games, though, and the low stakes games are a bit tougher than at Bodog.

Another possibility is Pacific. You can deposit, receive a bonus, withdraw the original money (wait 1 week), and play with the bonus money. They have some very soft $2 SNGs. I'm not sure whether SNGs count for clearing the bonus money, though. One advantage of starting at Pacific is that their software is the worst (bugs, no multitabling, little useful information, etc.), so every other site will look nice after you get used to Pacific.

The PokerStars nickel/dime NL is great if you know what you're doing. Opponents are just far enough along the learning curve that they'll fold to aggression. You get a lot of base hits along with the occasional double through.

You most certainly can start with a $100 roll and build it up. I started with $100 in March this year and have built it up over $24k so far. If you want to play NL ring look for .05/.10 games. Bodog has low buyin SNG's. The heads up ones are generally incredibly soft too. I play them for fun when I have a little time to kill. I would also suggest you try some of the limit games out there as well.
