View Full Version : Standard Deviation for NLHE play?

I'm wondering if there are any good guidelines as to what the standard deviation of a 'good' no limit player is? I've heard various things for limit play, including the recommendations Mason's gives in Poker Essays, but I don't seem to have seen similar recommendations for NL play? I assume they'd be different, given the differences in variance of NL play, but I'm not certain how best to figure it. At this point I don't have enough data to get a good read on what my actual SD is, but I'm curious as to where I'm hoping to end up.

This question comes up fairly often in the NL/PL forum here at 2+2. If you ask there you'll probably get a better answer. But from discussions in that forum it seems that a good player can make up to ten times the big blind per hour. As for standard deviation, I really don't know. I could hasard a guess at about 50-100 x big blind, but it really depends on the game conditions. Just a guess, I could be way off here.
