I lost so much with 99, cause I play them as if they were a good pair, and I almost always lose to TT JJ QQ :/

I do but I'm a fish. Also a pair unimproved can be good sometimes, and cards don't matter as much heads-up.

It's tough to see showdown when OOP against an opponent trying to make it expensive.

Actually what am I saying. I definitely overrate small pairs HU. I usually raise or fold, so my cards often don't mean anything unless we're all-in. Obviously, in that case, a pair unimproved is not very good. They do look nice on the screen though.

A-Q. It seems like it just costs me 4-6 BB every time it shows up.

Raise, get called. Miss the flop. Continuation. Get called. I'm done with the hand. You can cash out at the window /images/graemlins/mad.gif.

Hi Frank,

PT says anything with an 8 in it (except 88) is overrated by me. I also don't do well with JTs or JTo.

However, hands with 8s in them, like many of the hands noted by other posters in this thread (KQo in EP? AQ?) are not generally considered any good, so how can they be overrated?

controversial reply,
but i think with out doubt, the hand that loses people the most money is AA (post-flop obviously)

Ace Ace is overrated. Yes it's the best starting hand. But you'll only get action preflop if you have a loose or aggressive enough image... the value of Ace Ace preflop could be offset somewhat due to negative expectation with playing previous weaker hands. And if you push them hard post flop, well you'll only get action if you're up against two pair or a set or at best something like top pair and nut flush draw. Yikes. I like to think of Ace Ace as a pair on steroids but nothing more.

That's my #2 winning hand and should be in your top 3 too.

With 100x stacks, you have precisely one problem then: you are not raising enough preflop.

What's #1 then? Is it just a sample size issue?

donny5k

If this were true, you could steal a LOT of pots (like 90% of flops!). And even if it were true, assuming you raised preflop, you'd still show a profit with AA.

09-21-2005, 01:57 PM
I see too many people overplay their AJo. Usually, this is a calling hand at best on a full ring table. Too many people raise with it.
