Whenever a site has a guaranteed tournament and not enough people register for it, the site still has to cover the difference between the entry fees and the guaranteed number. The difference is called 'overlay'.

Say Stars has a $25,000 guaranteed tournament with an entry fee of $10. If 2,000 people register, Stars will have to come up with the remaining $5,000 so that they hit the guaranteed number.
