CD Drive just stopped working?

The CD drive in my laptop won't read cds or dvds anymore...
It was working fine yesterday until it kinda crashed while importing a CD in iTunes. Aside from sending it in for service, is there anything i might try first?

HP Pavilion ZD8060 with CD/DVD burner. Pretty much new, maybe 3-4 months old.

Sounds like it's a hardware failure. You can check in your windows hardware properties and see if the device is showing up and is listed in good working condition. You might also try removing the device from the device manager, rebooting and having windows detect and reinstall it. If that doesn't work, then send the sucker in.
