Acid test is a phrase that can also refer to a foolproof test that will accurately determine the validity of something.
-----
What are you testing the validity of?

Main Entry: litmus test
Function: noun
: a test in which a single factor (as an attitude, event, or fact) is decisive.

You're using the picture to test whether we're immature or not.

God, people who argue semantics are lame.

either you understand what an acid test is or you don't.

did you really think to yourself "the way he's using acid test is not quite consistent with the original meaning of the expression" or did you think "tests for acidity are called litmus tests, not acid tests"?

if you know what an acid test is, you probably understand that i meant, whether it's quite an appropriate usage or not, to use it to imply (jestfully) that your reaction to this picture is a foolproof way to determine whether or not you are immature.

if you don't know what an acid test is, it doesn't really matter whether my usage isn't quite right because you don't have an expectation of it in the first place.

i didnt link to that definition because it matched my intended meaning perfectly, i linked to it because it's my SOP for looking up stuff like that online.

So do you fail the test if you find the picture funny, or if you participate in the discussion following it?

No matter how much you try to justify your incorrect usage of the word (and then your defense even after you are shown the actual dictionary definition), you're not going to be able to change the fact that you made a mistake. In case you weren't aware, we all do. So get the [censored] over it.

LOL. Litmus paper is used to test for acidity or alkalinity. The terms may be used interchangeably.

you totally fail.

i did make a mistake by using a more arcane expression when there were obvious alternatives that people wouldn't have objected to.
