It looks like there's a very good chance MG in NJ, Barry, Rock Lobster, and I will all be at Foxwoods on Saturday the 10th. If any other 2+2ers are going to be in the area let me know, hopefully we can all get together for a meal and/or some cards.

I'm usually there for the Limit tounament on Saturdays, and it's about 90% I'll be there on the 10th (probably still reeling from the King of the Zoo Tournament on Thursday night the 8th).

Hey, I saw MG's friend there yesterday and I thought I heard him say MG got married. /forums/images/icons/confused.gif

Yet when I met MG the week before, he seemed like such a rational guy. Ya never know. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

JTG51,

After watching the World Poker Tour on Wednesday, and after seeing how beautiful Foxwoods is, I might have to take a trip out east... /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Rich,

Fred did play all day at the Foxwoods yesterday. I didnt get married, I had to look at places to have the reception
.
Just because I make rational poker decision doesnt mean I make rational life decisions. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

JTG, the 10th looks like a plan for me to meet you guys.

See you guys then.

After watching the World Poker Tour on Wednesday, and after seeing how beautiful Foxwoods is, I might have to take a trip out east...

Ironically enough, that's the only WPT event I haven't watched. I'm glad to hear they made the place look nice. I may be biased, but I think Foxwoods is as good a place to play middle limit poker as there is.

I don't suppose I can talk you into making a last minute trip out here, can I? /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

JTG,
If you are up early enough, we could head down that day for the tournament. I just have to get clearance from "the boss". As for the WPT, you know damn well I taped it. You'll see it soon enough.

OK everyone, so where are we going to meet that day. I think the best thing to do would be to use our screen names to sign in at the board.

Wow, I'd like to meet these legends of poker!

I'm seriously considering making the long drive out there, leaving early morning on the 10th and getting to the Woods between 12 and 2.

Anybody know if I can get a hotel room within half and hour of there (somewhere along 95) for a good price (under $50)? Just want a bed to crash on for a few hours Sat night/Sun morning...nothing too fancy.

Homer J,

You can find a room nearby on Route 2. They have some decent hotels.

I plan on getting there around 7pm or 8pm on Friday the 9th.

Sounds like a great idea. I know I'd be happy to see you again.

I can't give you much in the way of specifics, but there are a bunch of motels along 95. I know there's a Motel 6 in Niantic (at the end of 395 on 95). That is half an hour from Foxwoods. Hopefully someone here can give you some more options.

My first trip down to Foxwoods to play live has been planned, and TommyTheTuna and I will be making it to Foxwoods on...YOU GUESSED IT, May 10th for the limit tourney. Just so happens that the 2+2 East-Coast convention is going to be there this weekend?

Talk about changing the feel of the place, from 'soft' to um, I wonder if he's one of the dozen 2+2ers down here this weekend?? Yokies!

Hmm,
I went to Foxwoods a few weeks ago and it was my first time ever playing live. Fun time, also nicely profitable. I enjoyed playing the clueless newbie part--rather than being embarrassed by it, I was able to not sweat it because I knew everyone would assume I had gills based on the chip fumbling. (BTW, what is it with this 'buying the button' thing? How do you all like it? Does Mohegan do it too?) Maybe I can get the car fixed in time for the trip this Saturday.. would be nice to put some faces on the names. Although I think I already know what KurnsonofMongh looks like, there was a dude wearing a NEPC hat who told someone he was from Cranston (ok, I know that must have been him). I would have said hi but I thought he probably wouldn't even recognize my user name.

Anybody up for trying to get a mixed game going during the evening on Saturday?

Something like 4/8 or 5/10 HOSE (H - Hold'em, O - Omaha/8, S - Stud, E - Stud/8.....no Razz please!)?

-- Homer

Joe Tall
05-05-2003, 11:07 AM
Sorry Homer, I'm not much on Omaha, yet. Plus I'm not sure how you play a HOSE or mixed game? One round of each type?

With this contingency of 2+2ers starting to grow...I feel I'm going to be the Big Fish in the SHARK TANK!! And hey, Tuna, who's says anything about losing? I'm just praying the deck hits me in the face!

Homer
05-05-2003, 11:19 AM
I've never done it either. I believe it is one round for each type of game. If you have Zee's High-Low split book half the book is on O/8. There is a basic strategy section for low-limit games which is about 10 pages long. That honestly should give you enough information to hold your own. Plus, it would only be 1/4 of the game anyway. Also, if you prefer we could always try to get the game going at a lower limit (3/6).

You can probably tell that I would really like to get one of these games going. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

JTG51
05-05-2003, 11:22 AM
Homer, that's a great idea. I'm a little uncomfortable with Stud so I'd prefer HO or HOE, but I'd probably also play HOSE. I'm sure MG would play, and I know a few locals that would probably play also.

JTG51
05-05-2003, 11:25 AM
The game switches every half hour, not every round. The dealers work in half hour shifts so I'm pretty sure they just change when a new dealer comes in.

JTG51
05-05-2003, 11:29 AM
BTW, what is it with this 'buying the button' thing? How do you all like it? Does Mohegan do it too?

I think it's a great rule. Like most things good, you can not do it at Mohegan Sun. I asked a dealer there if I could buy the button once. She looked at me like I had two heads. I realized she had never heard of the rule and thought I actually wanted to buy the button and take it home with me.

Hopefully we'll see you there.

Greg (FossilMan)

Wish I could play that day. I know we could get a good 5,5 PLH game going. However, my Dad is visiting from out of town, so there will be no poker for me until I get to LV for the WSOP.

Have fun, everybody.

Later, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

Homer

I figure that pretty much everyone will be uncomfortable with one of the games, but it won't be too big a deal because:

1) If everyone is unfamiliar with a game, the playing field will still be level
2) That game will only be going 1/4 of the time
3) We won't play at too high a limit
4) Sometimes it's fun to fumble around with a game you don't really know....kind of reminds you of when you first started playing poker

We could always make it HO or HE or HOE or SOH or SHOE or SHE, doesn't really matter. I'm sure we could come up with something that is adequate for everyone.

Wow!!

Finally a semi-official gathering of 2+2'ers in the east. I'll be arriving Friday evening and will be playing 10/20 (or 5/10 w kill) if the 10/20 is full.

I had thought about playing the Sat AM tournament at the Sun, but if all will be at FW's I'll be there Sat AM too.

For Homer - most places close to the casinos are up well over $100, but further away in Groton or Mystic there are better rates. Try an Expedia or Orbitz search using Norwich, CT as the town.

If someone want to serve as MC, perhaps we can PM our cell phone #'s to him/her. If no one else want to do that, I'll be glad to do it.

I'm psyched!

I was really looking forward to meeting up with JTG and possibly MG, now it's looking like there'll be a good crew there. Mat, can you get 2+2 to sponsor us? Maybe some t-shirts, lunch, and quality accomodations? /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Barry, I'll give you my cell number in a PM (I also gave it to JTG).

I'll be there around 7:30 am, can hopefully get in a few 4-8 games if it's running, and plan on playing in the 10:00 limit tourney.

Someone suggested that we use our screen names on the board that day, I'm all for that.

You'll know you've found me when you see this person: 36 years old, white, bald, goatee, 5'10", 200lbs, wearing a white Manchester Monarchs hockey jersey (#20 SNESRUD on the back). You can see the jersey design here. (http://www.monarchshockey.com)

Oh yeah, 2 other things:
- I'm not familiar with buying the button, can someone briefly expain?
- This tourney has one $20 rebuy. I've only played in freeze-outs. Can someone offer some quick rebuy guidelines / strategy?

Thanks guys, and we'll see you on Saturday!

I think it's safe to say you'll be the only guy there with a Manchester Monarchs jersey with #20 and SNESRUD on the back. Shouldn't be too hard to find you. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Buying the button: It only comes up if you miss your big blind but come back in time for your small blind. Normally you can't post in the SB if you missed the BB. If you buy the button you post both blinds from the SB position, and no one else posts anything that hand. Then you get the button the next hand and the blinds go where they normally would have. The advantage is you get to play the button instead of posting behind the button. Some people like it, some hate it. I think it's a good rule.

The $20 rebuy is just a way to get more money into the pot. Everyone rebuys. If you don't, you'll be very short stacked. You don't have to get knocked out to rebuy. Just rebuy as soon as the tournament starts (everyone else at your table probably will also). It doesn't change your strategy at all, it just makes it a freeze-out with a slightly bigger stack.

RockLobster

And I guess you're right, there shouldn't be too many people that meet the given description there on Saturday. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

So basically you're saying that it is really a $45+10 tourney rather than a $25+10? How many chips do you get for $35 and how many do you get for $20 more? How many people usually buy-in and how long does the tourney last (probably won't matter as I will be out in an hour or so)? Lastly, do they still run side games during the tourney?

I guess I'll post my description too, so I will be easier to find. Non-descript 23-yr old white dude - 5'11", 225 (and all muscle I swear). I'll be wearing a black 2002 World Poker Open hat (says Horseshoe, Tunica MS or something like that).

Kurn, son of Mogh
05-05-2003, 04:04 PM
The last two weeks there have been 160-180 in the tourney. 1,000 for the buy-in, 1,000 for the rebuy. Lots of novices in the tourney. Pretty hard to put any plays on the table in the first 2 or 3 rounds. The tournament uses less than 1/3 of the tables, so there are side games, but remember this is the Northeast, so there are more stud tables than hold 'em. It usually ends after 3:30.

I'll be there. I'm about the same height and weight as you, Homer, but 29 years older than you and it ain't all muscle any more. Let's just say I'm built more like your namesake. I'll be wearing a New England Poker Classic cap (blue) and a light blue denim shirt that has a chili pepper and the words "Bite Me" over the left breast pocket. Gray goatee and shaved head.

Hey adventurers,

Would anyone consider playing in a $4-$8 HOESE game.

Every thirty minutes we change games. As the dealer changes so does our game. Hold Em. Omaha Eight. Stud and Stud 8.

I think we would have a lot of fun.

Pretty much. You don't really have any chance without rebuying. With the amount of chips you get for your rebuy it just doesn't make sense to play without rebuying.

Didn't you say you were planning on getting there at noonish time? The tournament starts at 10 AM. You are going to have to get up mighty early if you wanna make it, unless you plan on spending the night Friday night.

I'll be wearing a black 2002 World Poker Open hat

Hey JTG,
It seems like most of the group (you, Homer, Barry, etc.) are coming from all along the eastern seaboard, so someone's gonna have a hotel room close by. Why don't you guys just grab a deck of cards, buy (temporarily) 3 racks of white from the cage at the 'Woods, and have a mixed game in someone's hotel room? Sure, chaos might ensue, but no more so than the average dealer dealing HORSE for the first time. Plus, you'll pay a lot less rake, deal at the pace you want to, and it'll be hella fun.

Omaha8 and Stud8 are hi-lo games, where to qualify for low, the hand must be 8 high or better. So, for example in Omaha8, if there aren't 3 cards 8 or lower on the board, there is no low.

BTW, I thought I was going to be coming early Saturday morning, but have changed my plans. I'll be leaving work at around 12 on Friday, will check into my hotel, go up to Brown and drop my gf off with her sister for the weekend, and then head to the Woods. Hopefully I will be there by 7 PM.

If anyone else needs a place to crash, let me know. I have reservations for Friday and Saturday at a Best Western in Mystic (10-12 miles from Foxwoods). The room has two double beds and it's just me, so if you haven't reserved a hotel yet let me know and you can crash with me.

Regarding rooms near Foxwoods there is a motel I pass on route 395 about 20 min from Foxwoods named Yankee Plainfield Motel. Although I've never stayed there other poker players have mentioned that they have stayed there and there rates are reasonable. Also the tournament buy in is $25.00 +10.00 ($1000.00 chips) and one re-buy for $20.00 for another $1000.00 in chips. Have a great time and oh yes..make some money while your at it..Watch out for some of those 2+2 sharks..There out there...

What a great group, you guys are genuinely nice people /forums/images/icons/smile.gif. Things didn't work out for me to go to dinner / hang out into the evening with the group, maybe next time...

If you (avid reader) have the chance to meet up with any of this group, you're sure to have a good time:

JTG51
Barry and his wife Reggie (I think they're married.)
Homer
Kurn
LarryJoeFish (and friends)

You never know what you're in for, meeting people that SOUND nice on the 'net. Well these guys are great, I felt like I've known them for years.

The tourney was fun, but only Barry's wife made the final table (way to go!).

I made a few bucks at the 2-4 table while waiting for the tourney to start, didn't win anything at the tourney (which cost $55), and then won a few more bucks at the 4-8, leaving up a bit for the day. No great stories to tell as far as hands go. I found the 2-4 to be VERY fishy (as expected), and the 4-8 to be MOSTLY fishy (with a couple of surprisingly solid players). Barry, Homer, Jeff, and Kurn can share their higher limit experiences.

I hope to expand my b&m bankroll so that I can play the 5-10 kill game the next time around.

I hope LarryJoe posts about his first casino poker experience, he cut his teeth VERY NICELY on the poor 2-4 victims.

Thanks for a great time, I hope to meet up with y'all soon...

JTG, Homer, Rock, Barry, Thanks for the good time! I may have a 'Why give them the rake, when it can be spent on beer tournament' in Mass some time this summer, there is a inground pool, so when Barry busts out before his lady again, he can jump in and cool off. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I will post some hands this morning when I get a chance in the small stakes section. My overall first trip was great, I recouped everything from the tournament-plus at the 2/4 tables and survived at the 4/8 table full of 2+2ers.

Love, Peace and Hair Grease,
