What's the big deal about rakes

I always see sites talking about rake reduction. I don't quite understand the big deal cuz the rake belongs to whatever ever room is holding the game right? Is it just a gimmick or is there more to it? Anyone care to enlighten me?

The rake is simply what the room charges to hold the game. The more they keep, the less you take home.

well, as callydriaz said, the rake is the players money.

but, rakeback companies are third party sites that get your rake back at the end of certain periods aka awesome.
