View Full Version : Micro-Limits Heads Up League - Interest check

-Credit for the idea goes to the University of Virginia and Fresno State (UC Davis)-

Here's what me and a few ML regulars have been bouncing off each other on AIM. Who's in?

It's the Micro-Limits Heads Up League (!!!, woo!, yeah!), which is staggering similar to college football. Everyone that frequents Micros is welcome to join. The league will consist of heads up matches between anyone who wants to play. I will rank all players based on a pretty simple and generic formula which takes into account strength of schedule and your win percentage. I'll post the rankings every Sunday, and we can spend the rest of the week playing matches and trash talking. All matches will be a 25BB freezeout on Stars .02/.04 unless the two parties agree otherwise. If you want to spend all month playing a 400BB freezeout at .5/1 for a single match, that's between the two of you.

Here's the schedule we're looking at:

-From now until September 30th, we take signups for the league.
-From October 1st until December 31st, anyone in the league can challenge anyone else in the league. Want to play the same person 33 times? Fine. Want to play 4 matches in 3 months? Fine.
-After December 31st, we'll seed up bowl games based on how everyone finishes the regular season and have final matches for pride.

So far the response on AIM has been hugely enthusiastic, and we've got two people dedicated to administering this league and making sure nothing gets missed. I'll post more information and details later, if the demand is high enough. I hope it is. My question to Micros is : who's interested?

I know where every last one of you live, I will [censored] hunt you down. I promise you, the two of us who are heading this up are very enthusiastic and will see it through. If individual people decide to drop out during it, or someone wants to join, we can bend not break to take care of anything. The train keeps a rollin baby.

How are you going to do this?

Also, CHUMP fell apart because you had to wait for someone else to schedule matches. This format works better because you can just sit down and do it whenever you happen to catch somebody online.

What sites allow .02/.04 HU matches? I might be up for this.

Stars is the only site I know of. No rake, either, that's a big plus.

The bowl games will be decided arbitrarily. The championship bowl will be the predictable 1 vs 2 matchup. The rest will be based on the rankings, but if two people have already met during the regular season, or if there's a particularly interesting pairing, we'll set that up. For example, it could end up being:

1 vs 2
3 vs 5
4 vs 9
6 vs 8

Something like that. Just like the real bowl games.

In keeping with the spirit of the college football such and such, me and Kurt decided ELO was a no go. The way we're going to do it is much simpler and is easily updatable. I'll explain

Everyone is input into a spreadsheet in EXCEL. Column A is your name, B is your wins, C is your losses, and D is your win percentage. Column E is where it gets fresh. Column E, for those of you who use excel, would look something like '=average(d3,d7,d6)' That would give you the average win percentages of the players in D3, D7, and D6. Your opponents. Then column F would be '=average(e3,e7,e6)' That gives you your opponent's opponent's win %. Those are then all averaged together with '=average(d1,d1,d1,d1,e1,e1,f1)', meaning your rating is based on 4 times your win %, 2 times your strength of schedule, and 1 times your opponent's strength of schedule.

It sounds ridiculous, but it is 1) incredibly easy to maintain, and 2) very accurate. During last year's college football season I used the same spreadsheet and found it to be frighteningly correct. It takes a few games to converge, but that's life.

Edit : Anyone (let's face it, just Eeegah) who wants to do ELO ratings can, and we'll find a way to work them in, but the basis for this is going to be the ranking system.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't forsee myself having this problem, but what do we do with the people who get challenged more than they can play? In many leagues/ladders the top rated guys are being gunned for and tend to get challenged a lot.

Paxosmotic
09-19-2005, 12:05 AM
You're free to accept and decline challenges at your leisure, but with strength of schedule being an integral part of your ranking, if you're the #1 ranked guy one weak and decide to beat up on 3 of the lowest ranked people to pad your stats, don't be surprised to be ranked #2 or #3 the next. There's plusses and minuses to everything.

Just want everyone to know this is my last post before leaving Iraq. I'll be travelling back to America the next few days, at which point I'll post rules and further clarification. I'm looking forward to this, should be a grand old time. Enjoy yourself.

No sign up bonus. They occasionally offer reloads in the neighborhood of 20% up to $120 (need a $600 deposit to max it). These bonuses stack and never expire, and as you can withdraw your money 48 hours later you should take advantage of every one if your roll can withstand it.

You'll probably only need a few bucks for the HU tourney, and it won't disqualify you from any future bonus, so you should still seriously consider doing this.

By the way, the last bonus was earlier this month and they've had 2 in the past 3 or so months. See BW for more info.
