View Full Version : What is your longest session playing live?

09-14-2005, 11:45 AM
Was just wondering, actually, i wanted to see if I am a lunatic.

Played at Borgata once, sat down at a table at about 10AM saturday, left at about 2AM Sunday, 16 straigth hours.

I didn't event eat anything, just ordered coffee and water which increased the bathroom breaks, also took cigarette breaks.

I figure i dont get too many chances to play live since AC is over 2 hours aways, wanted to take full advantage.

41 hrs, Wynn, Las Vegas. Got unstuck 4 racks in a 15/30 game then blew 4 racks at a 4/8 to "relax."

I often play 14 hour sessions at Foxwoods; if I'm going to spend a little over 3 hours in round trip commute, I figure I ought to get a good chunk of time in playing.

36 Hours.

09-14-2005, 12:26 PM
holy cow, i dont feel so guilty now. But as mentioned above, If i am driving 2 hours to play, i want to make sure i get the most of it.

OK, so now a follow up question, do you go by yourself of with buddies?
The reason i left at 2am is cuz the buddy i was with plays blackjack only so he was done pretty fast, whereas, i was playing 2/4 limit which is alot slower paced than BJ.

Here's my confession, I've actually gone to the casino by myself, only once. Felt weird at first, but also felt good not to have someone you came with waiting for you to finish.

I actually prefer going to play by myself? Do i have serious gamlbing issues?

I've looped the clock (24-hours of straight play) a couple of times. But now I limit myself to 8-10 hours per session. With most falling in the 4-5 hour range.

But a few years ago, I got serious about my game and started tracking my game by the hour as I played. It's pretty simple. You just make a note every hour of where you are. I usually make the note when I take a bathroom break. That's when I noticed I was -EV once I hit 11 hours. At 18-hours or more, I'd have wild swings in my stack that I could only attribute to fatigue.

31 hrs.

Its would have been about 28 hrs but I went on a serious rush at an awesome table full of bad players. I can't leave when things are going so great.

My sleep schedule was messed up for days though.

09-14-2005, 12:58 PM
My longest session is about 23 hours. I don't mind going to play by myself for the same reasons you mentioned.

You only have gambling issues if you are risking money that you can't afford to lose or can't control yourself. Whether you go to the casino alone or not doesn't have anything to do with it.

Got up from a Bellagio N/L game at 6:30a.m. The brush signed my ratign card and after seeing I signed at 10:00 said "Wow, 8.5 hours straight huh?" I said "No. That was the other 10:00 o'clock"

I usually average 16-18 hours a crack though. When in Vegas, I'll play that long, take 3-5 hours off for a nap, shower and meal (sometimes eating at the table) then hit it again.

I went down to the Borgata a few months ago with 2 friends. We all got our seats around 1am, Around 10am I got up to get some food and stretch my legs. at 11am my one friend busted out while playing 3-6 and said "I'm gonna walk around, maybe hit the bar (yeah, 11am)"

My friend and I played through and never kept track of time, our friend comes back and says "guys, I went to take a nap in my car figured you would show up there eventually, it's dark out now"

So 14 hours is my longest stretch. We could have played through the night again but we felt we should give our friend a break.

I prefer my day playing cards not be subjected to unforeseen early departure because my buddy went broke. Its happened and I leave because I feel bad. I still go with friends but when I go by myself I know I can leave/change rooms/eat etc. whenever I want. Going by yourself is not a big deal and I actually think it is worse to sit in front of your computer for 15 hours than it is to sit at a table full of people, so whatever.

22 hours is my longest session. I lost 70 BB. I wanted to leave after 14 hours or so, but I was stuck in Gary, Indiana, with nothing to do until my flight.

If I go to AC by myself on say a Friday night, I'll usually play a 10- or 12-hour session (get there from DC by about 6 pm til the early morning), grab a nap at some motor inn and maybe a bite to eat, and then hit the tables for another ~15 hours or so (1 pm until I need to catch the NJ transit train to Philly at around 5 am).

My sessions are generally much shorter if I'm there with friends.

I suspect that if I lived closer to a cardroom, I might not play these long-ish sessions. However, the possibility that I might is a pretty good reason for me not to move close to a cardroom.

I haven't ever hit 40 hours, but I've cracked 30 many times.

If you're beating a game and you think the conditions are right for you to stay and you feel like it, even if you aren't playing at 100%, it's silly to leave if you have nothing else pressing to do at that time.

As long as it doesn't affect your work or family time - which is why it helps to have an understanding girlfriend / wife (Nicole, you're the best).

I like stopping by 2am, but I will play through the night if my table warrants it. So probably ~15 hours. I try to avoid doing that though, I prefer an afternoon session and an evening session with a reasonable night's sleep.

For the TStoners out there, I sat next to big Paul for two consecutive all-nighters at the same 100NL table. Only he didn't leave the table during the day. And he was still there in the early afternoon of day 3. He left after ~54 hours.

09-14-2005, 02:32 PM
I definitely agree, if things are going good, I am not getting up.

I am curious to see how I hold up next time i play live as i must say that now, my starting hand requirements hand tightened up considerably. I'm sure you guys are used to this but not me as I am still a beginner. (i.e. I am the guy that used to call a pre flop raise wth A5 offsuit) oops

23 hours+ on four separate occasions. I didn't want to say that I played the WHOLE day.

3 of 4 were winners after being stuck badly. The other I do not care to mention.

30 is my longest. Some other guy at the table who lost track of time said "Are you still here" to a floor. She said "NO, YOU are still here. I've been home, ate, slept and now I'm back /images/graemlins/laugh.gif "

just this past labor day weekend. 14 hours Friday night, 8 hours off (1.5 round trip home, the rest in sleeeep) 16 Sat night (again, a break) and 14 hours sunday night.

It was fun, but I felt like I'd been stretched thin, like too little butter scraped over bread....

Thursday afternoon (5 p.m.) to Monday night (11 p.m.) on my very first mid-limit experience when I was 19. My Vegas trips usually are about 48 hr sessions.

About 20 hours. Got out of work at 4, started at 5pm Friday and played til 1p.m. Saturday. I came back at midnight and played til about 6am Sunday morning. A friend of mine got there about an hour before I did Friday afternoon and was there when I left my second session early Sunday morning.

I love it when I sit at a table with a dealer, that dealer goes home, then comes back the next day for another shift and I'm still at the same table.

i almost always go by myself.

going to the casino with other people is such a fuking hassle. i use to go a lot with other people back then when i wasn't really that serious with my game. heres what usually happened: we drive for 2 hours, actually its more like i drive for 2 hours. they buy in for some ridiculiously small amount then inevitablly bust out in like 20 mins. then they'll want to leave. its such a pain. i feel like i have to fuking babysit.

its so much better to go by yourself. i go when i want. i play for as long as i want. and i leave when i want. total freedom.

i use to play some crazy sessions. longest was 24 hours. yea that was not fun... then having to drive for 2 hours. worst feeling ever.

i have made it a policy of mine to not exceed 12 hours. i have experienced that once you get past 12 hours, you start making mistakes. i have misread hands, misread the board, folded my blind, stuff like that.

if this was that card game, i would then turn over all four of my aces and stick you with the pot.
by 6th grade i had stayed up for 3 days straight so it's no big deal to me, i've never slept much since i can remember.
my brother came to the casino on that monday morning to get me to leave but wound up staying and playing the whole day/night. i can remember with exceptional clarity the feeling i had in my chest on monday, i thought i was having a heart attack. when we left, him in his car and me in mine to make the 3 hr. drive back home i couldn't focus/breath anything, like i said i thought i was dying so i pulled over after 20 minutes of following him home and passed out for a few hours.

10hrs of O/8 at commerce, i have ADD from playing online but i thought i had to try to 'hit the grind'... i was nearly nuts by the end

09-15-2005, 02:54 AM
My longest was an unremarkable 26 hours of 1/2 NL. Noteworthy, though, is the time I showed up to find a friend up 6.5 buyins in a capped NL game. He told me he'd been at the casino about 7 hours. I played a few hours, got bored, went home and slept, played some soccer the next day, then showed back up at the casino about 18 hours later. My friend was in the same seat, now up 14 buyins. He left the same time as me, 10 hours after that.

9 1/2. I'd intended to leave earlier but the craziest maniac I've ever seen sat down and ran 1/2 rack up to about 7 racks back down to 3 racks before he left.

09-15-2005, 11:46 AM
wow, and I thought 18 hours was nuts. I completely agree though with what was mentioned above, driving home is brutal after a long sesssion. I once had to pull over at one of the rest areas on the garden state and take a nap, buddy that i went with had passed out already.

I guess some people can't wait till they get to the est area, hence, all those cars lined up on the right side shoulder right after the tolls on teh garden state.

Hmm, I'm not even close. I did play blackjack all day (starting 9 a.m.) during my last vegas trip, (was playing with wife and brothers in law), got up $250 and said "I'm heading to the orleans open hi lo tourney", went over played, finished 15 out of the money, came back and they hadn't moved (this was about 11 p.m.), and we all played until 4:30, exept for comped food break. I love my wife /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I used to work nites and drive a 90 minute commute home at like 2 a.m., and totally agree with what was said ealier: don't drive super tired. Used to pull over all the time and cat nap when tired. Driving really, really, tired is more dangerous than driving a little bit drunk, IMHO.
