if the river was the 4th ace instead of me havingf pocket rockets, the hand would not count, correct?

I may be wrong but you might have to have the pair in your hand for quads to count towards the JP.

You have to use both of your hole cards. If you hold AxKx and the board is AAAQT you would use both cards making quads, and it would count. In this case, the river ace would give you AAAAK, not using the Q in your hand.

so it's not close at all.
