Seasonal ice cream?

Can someone explain to me why ice cream, and especially non-fruit related ice cream, can be seasonal?

probably because it is homemade and whoever makes it decides to only make it during a certain season.

Probably for the same lame-ass reason why certain yankee candle scents are "seaonal." WTF indeed!

This would make sense if it were true, but I doubt it is. I mean, my local supermarket (HEB in San Antonio) has ice creams that are seasonal. Like, a certain chocolate chip ice cream was seasonal? Why??? The chips only grow on trees in the winter, or something? Makes no sense.

Marketing. The same reason McDonalds whips out the McRib every other year.

some of this has to do with the fact that companies can only make so many flavors at a time so the chocolate chip you like may not be seasonal for a reason but they have to make it that way so they can have room to make the truly seasonal ice creams. Does this make sense?

My favorite ice cream - peppermint - is usually only available around Christmastime. It's for the best since I would just pig out on it all year long if I could.
