View Full Version : Las Vegas 5/10 vs 10/20

Hi -
Planning a trip to Vegas -
Where are the best 5/10 games?
Most people seem to mention the Bellagio or Mirage -
Are there soft games to be found at this level? How do they compare to 5/10 internet games or to the Taj in AC?

Is there a big jump between 5/10 and 10/20 or does it depend more on the table.

Thanks for any help.
Sam

There are no 5-10 games in Las Vegas so you should ignore the opinions of those people who said the Mirage or Bellagio have the best 5-10 games.

There are 4-8 games all over the Strip (Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Monte Carlo, Bellagio, Flamingo, Sahara). You can play 6-12 at the Mirage.

I've become a big believer that the typical 4-8 game on the Strip is beatable for 2 big bets an hour. But, the Mirage 10-20 game is barely beatable for 1 big bet an hour.

Dynasty - thanks -
It sounds like 4-8 is a better bet for me.
I should explain - I play at the Taj - where they have 5/10 and made the mistake of equating this with low limit in general which is what people were writing about.

How beatable is the 8-16 at Bellagio ?

Usually, the 8-16 is a rock garden. I haven't played it in more than a year. I am quite sure a good player could make just as much playing in a good 4-8 game.

If you're going to play 4-8 (or 3-6), I reccomend you not play at the Bellagio or Mirage. All the poker rooms on the Strip have a $4 total rake. However, the Bellagio and Mirage offer no bonuses or jackpots as part of the rake. If you play at the Monte Carlo or Mandalay Bay, you will pay the same rake but get a relative freeroll on high hand bonuses. If you make 4-of-a-kind or better, the house hands you extra money.

From a rake perspective, the Mirage and Bellagio have the worst low-limit games on the Strip. They're only advanateges are a big room (but not more low-limit games) and a completely smoke free environment.

I am an AC regular. I now play 10-20, but I've found the Mirage 6-12 and the Bellagio 8-16 to be the equivalent of the Taj 5-10.

I don't know if things have changed, but a couple years ago, all the low limit games were spread limit (1-4-4-8). This requires an adjustment if you're used to a fixed limit game. I know the Bellagio now has fixed limit 4-8; I don't know about the other casinos.

Whatever you do...don't play 1-5 stud at the bellagio...last time we looked they took up to five or more and may have been no limit!

However, for fifteen thirty and above, there is little choice...but at thirty sixty, we think they charge TIME, not RAKE at the Bellagio, and that can be good or bad!

The reasons I disagree are several:

There certainly are more 4-8 games at the Bellagio than at either Monte Carlo or Mandalay. (I do check each out before going to play. You can call ahead and get on a list for Monte Carlo or Mandalay or just ask how many games are going.)

However, the main factor is that games at the Bellagio are typically softer. I usually take about three hours to lose $200 or so at the Bellagio, but get a lot of action. In contrast, play at Mandalay ($1-2 blinds) or Monte Carlo is much tighter generally, it takes me longer to lose the same $200 and is less fun.

You are an extremely irresponsible poster. The rake at The Bellagio $1-$5 stud game is four dollars max. That means that small pots actually get raked less than four dollars. If you think I'm wrong, give them a call 702-693-7111, ask for the poker room, and then ask to speak to the manager on duty.

If you're going to participate in these forums, you need to participate in a responsible manner. Don't come on here making irresponsible statements in an effort to promote your site in some strange way.

Am I supposed to take this response seriously?

I agree the poster was wrong to say some of the things he said. The 1-5 however is a $5 max.

$4 max on all raked games at Mirage/Bellagio from my understanding except their $1-5.

Lately when I go to Bellagio I'm either in the 8-16 hold'em or 4-8 stud. But I just called to double check if my memories of 1-5 stud were off. They weren't.

To say they rake more then $5 I agree is ludicrous.

While I agree with CEO about playing where you have fun and think you have the best chance to make some money; from my own experience, I think all 4-8 games in Las Vegas are very soft during swing shift and graveyard. Some day time games can be rock gardens, but even these can be played for both fun & profit. YMMV.

Hi Howard:

I called the Bellagio mamager and spoke to the shift manager. She told me the rake was $4. Thus that's why I posted the $4 figure.

Best wishes,
Mason

Innocent mistake on Susie's (sp) part. I'm sure she's got a lot more to worry about then a 1-5 stud game.

Mason, I am sorry you don't READ the posts, but QUALIFIERS are words that have meaning...Sorry, I haven't been to the WSOP yet this year...when I was there last year, I remember checking and the 1-5 spread limit stud game was a dollar higher max rake than the other games...perhaps this has changed. However, the SPIRIT of this post was to remind players to LOOK at the costs when deciding!

After reading more of the posts, I guess I was right...and I also said MAY be higher! READ PLEASE!

Relax...no one but you mentioned my website, but THANKS!

Hi Howard:

Susie told me tonight that she gave me the wrong figure on the phone. The max rake at $1-$5 stud is $5.

Best wishes,
Mason

Wow .... Pokerscene, you checked on the rake last year when you went to the Bellagio for the WSOP ?

Wow .... are you going to cover the WSOP this year also, to make sure that none of the poker players have any problems AND if they do Pokerscene will make sure that justice is served ???

Is your faithful paid sidekick KINKYDAWG going to be there too ?
