Playing 3-6 at the Turning Stone last night after an unremarkable showing in the NL tourney.

Game is very loose, several players seeing 90%+ of the flops and many calling all the way to the river with garbage. Very ripe.

After about an 30 minutes the following transpired:

Early player raises. I have ATo (since I figured he could have anything the way the table was playing) I call from mid position. 2 or 3 more callers behind me including a guy who looks like Kenny G.

Flop is T 4 2 rainbow giving me top pair, top kicker. Pre flop raiser checks, so I bet to see where I am at. A couple callers including Kenny G. Preflop raiser folds so I figure I am probably leading.

Turn is a 7. I bet, all fold to Kenny G who calls.

River is another 4. Crap. My hunch is Kenny G is playing A4o or something. I bet. Kenny G raises.

I say something like "Ace four, eh?". He smiles. I call out of curiousity. He turns over:

42o for a full house (he called two bets cold pre-flop with 42o). Doh.

He says: "Ya know, once I flopped two pair I decided to slow play it. I wasnt expecting to make a full house."

I said, "I didn't have you on 4-2 off. Nice hand". LOL.

Took a couple beats like that during the night, but overall booked a solid win so I am not complaining. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

You'll find that a lot at Turning Stone 3/6, dumb players.
Anyway, what tournament did you play in on a Wed night? I havent went but all i can remember is the tourneys on saturday mornings and monday evenings.

The funnist thing ive heard at the tables was last week playing in 4/8 HE at Crown Casino

When ever a new dealer sits at the table i like to joke with them and ask them to deal me good cards or specific hands eg AA. Most of the dealer say something like sure thing or what ever u want

This night a new dealer sits down and I ask him
"Are you going to deal me good cards tonight?"

He replied "NAH....im going to deal you SH!T!!!"

Me and the rest of the table laughed our asses off

Sorry to disappoint. /forums/images/icons/blush.gif I guess it was not as funny in the re-telling...

ZMan: They have a NL tourney every Wed night at 7pm. $40+$10 gets you T300 with unlimited $20 rebuys in first hour giving you T500 for each rebuy. Then an add-on at end of the hour for T1000.

Last night about 50 people played, lots of rebuys, prize pool was $6000 or so. 6 places paid.

IMHO play was pretty bad, people going all-in with T8o and cracking AA, etc. I know you are supposed to play a little looser with rebuys, but I was amazed at some of the plays. Mostly it worked itself out as the final table was made up of pretty solid players. I finished in the middle of the pack (not solid enough I guess /forums/images/icons/frown.gif ).

Thank you, i did a little research and i discovered on their website that they do have a tournament on Wed. You answered my next question already about re-buys.

Were a lot of people rebuying during the first hour? How many rebuys? How many did you rebuy? Im thinking about playing in one of these tournaments, but i want a good idea of how much i should bring. Ill probably go a lot during the summer once i get a job. Anyway, Overall is it a beatable tourney?

Is the 25 tourney on mondays rebuy?

ZMan,
I saw a lot of rebuys. At least one guy re-bought 6 or 7 times at my table. Here is the basic amount I think you should be willing to spend:

$50 to get in = T300

$20 immediate rebuy on 1st hand = T500 more
(you can rebuy only if you have T300 or less, if you dont rebuy here you'll be seriously shortstacked as most people will have 800 at your table and you'll have only T300)

$20 Add-on at end of 1st hour = T1000 more.

Total = $90.

I spent $110 total (including $10 for the house)and my rough estimate is that prize pool was about $6000 and there were about 50 players, so typical player invested $120 (excluding the $10 that went to the house).

I definitely think its beatable, however because play was so wild the deck has to hit you (at least a little).

In particular, I rarely saw anyone fold to an all-in reraise. E.g. guy in mid pos raises 200 with JTo, guy in late position goes all in for 1500+ with QQ. Guy with JTo calls and makes a straight on the river and QQ is screwed. Saw variations of this repeatedly AA cracked by T8o, etc.

I had AK 3 times last night (pretty cool, right?).

First time I raise 4x BB and everyone folds. I scoop the blinds. High point in the tourney for me /forums/images/icons/cool.gif

Second time I move all-in preflop (about 9x BB) and get 3 callers. I am psyched until flop/turn/river are all rags and guy with pocket 44 takes it down. Rebuy.

Third time I get AK I move all-in preflop (about 5x BB) and again get 3 callers. Again ragged board misses me and guy with K2 takes it down when a 2 comes on the river.

Anyway the structure is designed to encourage rebuys. As I mentioned above you start with T300 and rebuys get you T500 and add-on is T1000. Here is the structure for the first 5 levels (each level 15 minutes):

SB --- BB
15 --- 25
25 --- 50
50 --- 100
100 --- 200
Break (end of rebuys and add-on)
200 --- 400

So you can see from the structure your original T300 is not worth much for very long.

As for the Monday tournament I havent played it in over a year so I am not sure what its like these days.

Hope this helps and hope to see you there (though I dont get to go that often with new baby at home).

The funny part was that the guy looked like Kenny G. Just thinking about Kenny G. makes me laugh. Norm MacDonald on Saturday Night Live:

"Kenny G just released a Christmas album. Happy birthday, Jesus. Hope you like crap!"

The true hilarity of the comment, I would suppose, comes in the juxtaposition of the lack of understanding to play 42o with the indication of sentient thought required to formulate the strategy of slowplaying. Or is it in the juxtaposition of a male human looking like Kenny G?

Only the gods can answer. Mason?
