View Full Version : Too optimistic?

One of my biggest problems is, that I'm always too optimistic on scary boards. An example is given below, were I lost nearly everything of stock, which I built up the hour before.
I'm sure, I made several mistakes in this hand, that's why I ask for your advice. Should I play generally more cautiously, or did I make a single big mistake. Which one was the worst?

0.50/1 Hold'em (10 handed)

Preflop: Hero is EP with J /images/graemlins/heart.gif,A /images/graemlins/heart.gif.
2 fold, Hero raises, 1 folds, MP calls, 2 fold, Button calls, both blinds fold.

MP and Button are some loose players, to which I had some good calls in the previous hands. I won with top pair with marginal kicker against an even lower kicker, or I won against lower pair or even against an aggressively played bluff. So, maybe I was slightly on tilt, while playing this hand.

Flop: (7.5 SB) 9 /images/graemlins/spade.gif,Q /images/graemlins/spade.gif,K /images/graemlins/club.gif (3 players)
Hero checks, MP checks, Button bets, hero raises, MP calls, Button calls.

Turn: (7 BB) T /images/graemlins/spade.gif (3 players)
hero bets, MP calls, Button calls.

River: (10 BB) Q /images/graemlins/club.gif
hero bets, MP calls, Button raises, hero 3-bets, MP calls, Button caps, hero calls, MP calls.

Result in white:
<font color="white">
Button shows [ QD,9C ]
hero mucks cards [ JH,AH ]
MP mucks cards [ 3S,7S ]
</font>

Yes, too optimistic..

Flop checkraise is awful. 3-betting the river against a possible flush and full house is not a good move.

Bet the flop. There is no reason to check/raise. Bet/call the river.
