In Response To: Re: 180 degrees from right (baggins)

This has been my objection to Indian Casinos in CA (I don't have first hand knowledge of other states). They don't pay taxes, they collect welfare, and they can act at will against non-native American employees. Just because perhaps my great great great took away some of their great great great's land, doesn't give THIS generation the right to have priveleges that we who have lived by the rules our whole lives don't.

This is not a suggestion original with me, but I have heard one say that he would have no objection if the Native Americans were each given $1 million tax-free, and henceforward they were to obtain no special privileges whatsoever. A one-time settlement, if you will, rather than specially advantageous treatment in perpetuity.

He suggested this be done, and the Indians told, "Here it is: do with it what you will, but be wise, for this is a final settlement."

problem is they have treaty rights that cant be taken away. just like you have rights on your property. the govt. can take them but has to win in court, which they try to do from time to time.

This is a whole really complex topic that is tough to dive into. The problem here is that for the most part an Indian reservation is soverign. Since it's soverign I don't really have a problem with what they do, they can be quite different then us since they arent bound by the constitution in the same way as us. Anyway I don't know much about this issue but if the indians want to be discriminatory this is a whole different matter. I don't really care they can do what they want but its not because they've been oppressed- it's because they have their own land.

Your point brings up a few things I have always wondered:

1. Do Native American casinos have to obey the state's environmental laws?

2. Does the state have any authority over the N.A. casino's gambling? In other words, if they were cheating customers, would the state have the right to intervene? Or is it all up to the tribe controlling the land?

Just more bigoted propaganda. I'm begiinning to think that the majority of people who post here are prejudiced against minorities.

01-19-2002, 01:11 AM
I think that the government should quit letting you cheat the IRS, and throw you in jail. Then we will discover who is oppressed or not.

01-19-2002, 01:13 AM
how come they need permission for blackjack?, also.

01-19-2002, 01:19 AM
Yes, I guessed it wasn't as simple a solution as he might have made it sound like, although I didn't consider your point.

Just something I thought was interesting.

01-19-2002, 01:47 AM
I'm afraid I am beginning to think that you too may be prejudiced--against majorities-;)

01-19-2002, 03:17 AM
Sorry, I'm a white anglo-saxon Republican.I recognize bigotry when I see it. The party of Lincoln has unfortunately become the party that produced the PATRIOT Act. I find your posts are usually not well thought out. Are you a manic -depressive?

01-19-2002, 08:09 AM
You might recognize bigotry when you see it, but you also see it when it isn't there.

Let's take a look at what you posted below.

In Response To: A question for all you liberals (Goat)

"Conservatives don't celebrate MLK day. They rue the day the Votings Rights Act of 1965 gave people of color the right to vote."

saying that conservatives rue that day is nonsense, and it is a bigoted statement on your part to imply that this is true of all conservatives, or even of most conservatives. In fact, most conservatives would probably be appalled if it were suggested that the Voting Rights Act be revoked or the civil rights clock be turned back.

"Conservatives don't believe that people of color are equal to them. Therefore, they assume that applicants of color will be inferior to their lilly white stereotypes. Historically, a person of color had to be twice as qualified to even get an interview."

again you are judging, labeling and assigning beliefs to a whole group of people. Also, your argument falls flat on its face when you stop and realize that there actually are quite a number of black conservatives in this country. I've known a few. Do you think that these black conservatives believe that "persons of color" are inferior to them?

"Your whole post smells of a person of bias."

>your whole post REEKS of bigotry. You're just a reverse bigot, one who doesn't fit the common mode. But you're a bigot nonetheless.

No, You are wrong. I could go through post after post of yours in which you post Anti-black crap. Of course, you then chose to defend blatant anti-semitism and permitted Chris ALger to call America a terrorist nation because you are a socially inept kiss ass. I think you are manic depressive, and therefore take it easy on you.

To deny discrimination exists today is playing ostrich. It is a bigoted crime of ommision. It is popular with people who have low self esteem and still derive pleasure from putting others down.

#1 - NO go check out the "drinking water at several of them.

#2 = a lady won a HUGE (I dont remember the amount, but close to a million) jackpot on a slot machine, HAD HER PICTURE TAKEN WITH THE MACHINE SHOWING THE AMOUNT AND JACKPOT, and later was reimbursed the amount she had put into the machine rather than paying the jackpot. The reason? The machine must have been broken, because that machines does not have that large a jackpot on it.

if they are sovereign, why do we pay them welfare, unemployment, food stamps etc etc when they pay NOTHING into the programs?

01-19-2002, 06:30 PM
Are you talking to me? I don't cheat the IRS. I don't like them but that doesn't mean I cheat them. I'll just assume you meant to respond to some other post because this is another one of the dumbest posts I've ever read if it was indeed intended for me.

Well we give money to other countries too, like Pakistan for instance. They are soverign too. Don't get me wrong I'm not up on this issue so I don't want to venture into wether this is a good or bad policy.

I don't post anti-black statements and I don't defend anti-Semitism. I am also not Chris Alger's keeper so it's not up to me to "permit" him to do anything or not.

Neither do I deny discrimination exists today. Of course it does. However I do deny that conservatives as a group rue the Voting Rights Act. I consider that a completely preposterous statement.

they are all citizens of the usa. they pay federal income taxes just like the rest of us. but they are exempt from state and local taxes for the most part. but most cases they do pay property taxes on individually owned land. many federal and state laws apply to them as well as many county laws and rules. i suspect you wouldnt want to swap positions with them on an individual basis.

Go back to your therapist and have the medication adjusted.

01-20-2002, 03:30 PM
New pseudonym, huh?

Sadly, same old stuff.

01-20-2002, 07:52 PM
I don't know what your talking about. It appears that maybe you are M posting as John Cole. M is very mentally unstable. That is a known fact.

01-20-2002, 10:11 PM
I'm not on any medications, and I don't see a therapist, but maybe I should. Thanks for the suggestions.
