Casinos/Aurora, CO

I'm going to Aurora, CO next week and will be staying at the DoubleTree and was wondering if there are any casinos with poker rooms near by.

If you don't mind driving an hour up into the mountains for shitty 2-5 spread limit, there's Black Hawk. If you do go up there, go to The Gilpin - it's the best room in town. They've got some decent tournaments.

I am sure you still work there and are pumping your room but no way is this the best room. It is the nicest "room" but the action lacks and 90% of the dealers are horrible. Do stay away from Fortune Lounge though - it is quite possibly the worst.

CCS has some good tournaments daily if that is what you are looking for and a lot of donkeys on the weekends.
Lodge might have the best action but stay away from the $5/$5 game where there is a lot of colusion.

First, I don't work there - that's Juanez. The quality of play is bad just about anywhere you go. You might as well go to the best room with the best management. Second place would be Mountain High. The Lodge is just stupid LAGgy and the management sucks. CCS used to be my favorite, but you're going to take 2 years off your life every night you play there with all the smoke in that room.

The Gilpin is actively trying to be the place for tournaments and they have some cool things going on and are always trying new stuff. They're the only room where it's clear they're actually trying to be a good place to play.

Sorry I forgot which one of you worked there.
Management might be ok at Gilpinj meaning upper management but they have some of the worst floor people in town as well as the worst dealers.
They have the "nicest" room since it is the newest but unless you are wanting to play fixed limit at 2/4 its not the place to play - just my 2 cents.
I really wish they would have better action and better staff because like I said it is a nice room equipement and comfort wise.

FWIW, business is gradually getting busier and busier and there are nightly "regulars" making the Gilpin their home base so to speak. maybe i catch them on bad nights - i have been in when the floor had to call another floor over cause they didn't know the answer. The moving button sucks cause it slows down the game when the dealers don't know how it works - although this is getting better.
We had one dealer one night not rake (which was ok with me). Then the next hand he takes a $1 out of the pot and puts it in his tip box, then uses the $1 tip to rake. He had no clue what he was doing and I have never seen a slower dealer. Moving tables can be a nightmare because the floor is running around like a chicken with their head cut off. As for regulars - you find that everywhere. I just don't happen to like the Gilpin and don't visit but I am sure others do like it. To each his own.

There is 1 good floor person there. I don't know his name but he is good. Skinny guy with short black hair - everyone else is worthless. but like I said everyone has their reasons for playing where they play. I really wish the Gilpin good luck. It is set up to be a very nice place to play and I know they are going through growing pains being hte newest room.

I've never seen anything like what you describe here. Also, the moving button is infinitely better than the dead button and I've not had any dealers not know how to run it. Just because you don't understand why you have to post a small blind on your button doesn't mean that nobody else does. The floor goes out of their way to help you with whatever you want, be it table changes or anything else. The dealers are as good as any other place and they're much friendlier on average, too. Maybe you were there when the room first opened. Of course there was some confusion then and people were getting into the flow of things, but it's a different story now. The room is busier and there are donks spewing chips to be found at every table.

If you want to play other games, The Gilpin offers those, too. They spread Omaha, Stud, and a choice game and will open one up whenever there are players who want to play it.

Whatever. I just don't see why you'd rag on the Gilpin so much when they're clearly making the greatest effort to serve the players out of any room in town.

Like I said - everyone likes rooms for different reasons. I gave you mine why I don't like it. If you like it go play htere and be happy. IMO they have the worst staff and dealers - just 1 mans opinion. You seem to take it a little personal or what??? And no I was there just a few weeks ago for my last time and nothing had changed since the open. The dealers still can't explain and get the moving button right (not all but some). So go have your fun at the Gilpin. I just won't. I prefer other rooms.

On another note - making an effort doesn't make you a great room. Like I said before you got your panties in a wad, I wish them luck but I prefer other rooms for the reasons I stated.

That's the first time I recall been called worthless before. We have 9 floor people, and you believe that 8 of them are "worthless"? BTW, we have two skinny guys with short black hair working the floor. I doubt that you have actually interacted with ALL of the floor staff, but who knows. Maybe you have.

As far as the moving button issue, it's my experience that many, many players have no clue how it works and some get all pissy about it. Especially since we are the only house in town using it. There's one guy who frequents the room who will sit out a full orbit until his BB every time he is made to post because of the moving button. He just doesn't get it and he thinks he saves $$ by doing this. It makes me chuckle every time. All he does is miss a bunch of hands while he biitches about how "stupid" the moving button is.

Anyway, off topic. Good luck at the Station or Mt. High. I prefer Mt. High for the same reason as Patrick...you can get black lung in one session at CCS from the perpetual cloud of smoke you have to sit in. Of course Mt. High has removed a bunch of thier tables for construction.

No I am sure I haven't interacted with all 9. The few that I have I wasn't impressed with though and I have no idea which one you are so please don't take it personal.

I love how everyone assumes since I complained about the moving button that I don't knwo how it works. I have played enough to know how it works and I don't mind it but it slows the game down there IMO. Between the people asking what the heck is going on, to the dealers having to explain it (and some have done a poor job IMO, but I am sure they are getting better with experience) I am sure things are getting better there since I know you guys are going through growing pains opening up. It really is a nice room conditions wise - i.e. no slots, etc....

Oh and don't worry the single worst floor in town is at CCS but thank god they have others to pick up his slack lol
