im working as an intern to a center director of NASA and i just found out that we're having a meeting in 90 minutes in which he will tell everyone(about 200 employees) theyre getting laid off. this doesnt really affect me since friday was already my last day anyways(im just a summer intern). but still, this sucks, my office-mate sitting right behind me is not going to have a job in 90 minutes and none of them see it coming. i guess theres no real question here, but im pretty bummed for all the people i work with.

Where is NASA down there? At the college or up on Empire Grade in Lockheed's old buildings?

Tell them there is a ton of money to be made in the Party 3/6 6m and 5/10 6m tables. And tell me their names.

Looks like a coin flip to me.

I almost feel bad because these people are going to lose their jobs. But then I realize that this is going to save me $$$ in the long run.

im not offended in the slightest, one of my best friends and i are both interning here and its really opened our eyes to what a gigantic waste of money it is. its generally lazy researchers who get here at 10, leave at 4 and complain about being underpaid while dumping any actual work they might ever have to do on me or another intern and then sitting around and talking to each other about how poor their working conditions are. and somehow i randomly got the nicest office in the building by far, weird.

Studies have statistically shown that there's less chance of an incident if you do it at the end of the week.

just got out of the meeting. my building is dead quiet, everyone was just in shock, that was brutal. and i knew in advance because my boss told me, since im his intern. it sounds like congress approved nasa's budget for 2006 and then when the nasa administrators got it they changed it to fund their own programs or their own salaries more and cut many nasa workers out of it themselves, which would be hideously illegal. i assume congress will be notified, whether they take action or not is a different story. and whos patrick? i doubt hes out of a job, only a few hundred contracted employees(not civil servants) were fired.

NASA doesn't benefit the rich rightnowthisinstant, so it's expendable. Plus, we have to make sure there's enough money in the fisc for Haliburton to steal during the rebuilding of New Orleans.
