Why did you 3-bet the turn?

Why? I'm lost. What types of hands is the villian screwing around with this much on the turn and river?

Because he thought that the villian had a smaller two- pair. I missed that one, I wouldn't three- bet the turn either. I need to get some more sleep.

eh, It's OK. You split with any ace, a queen may or may not call down, and flush draws may semi-bluff. Better hands will be rare.

The value of calling the turn raise and calling (or raising, but not readless) the river comes from catching queens, bluffs, and PPs for an extra bet. You often catch a busted flush draw as well. When you 3-bet, you're giving your opponent an excuse to fold his weakest hands while gaining the lone advantage of forcing a flush draw to call an extra BB on the come (i.e. what probably happened here). Plus you're sometimes behind.

Looking at it this way, calling the turn and raising many river cards is superior to 3-betting immediately.

Villian has precisely A2s, so it is a mistake to three bet the turn and call the river check-raise.
