View Full Version : My Friend's Having a Crisis. Important question.

Jack of Arcades
09-11-2005, 01:15 AM
On the 6th, my friend, a 16-year-old girl, was found by her mom with about a dime of weed. She got kicked out/ran away of the house tonight and is staying with a friend.

Given that:

1) She's 16
2) Not a previous offender
3) Lives in Louisiana
4) Was only in possession of a dime and
5) Has not been caught with it by the authorities

What can she expect to happen to her?

Oh, also, her mother found nude pictures of her on her computer. I'm not sure if there's any evidence of transmission to anyone else. If not, is there anything that can be done about that?

No, there's a lot of factors that go into that, including her mother stealing money from her, her having sex with her boyfriend, and plenty of other things.

sounds like she's going to have to go through what every other adolescent goes through when they get caught doing things their folks dont want them to.

it sucks, but i think them's the breaks.

perhaps she should stop smoking pot if she wants to live under someone else's roof and someone else's rules.

its not that im against pot, but i could understand why a parent wouldnt want their impressionable 16 yr old doing it.

which isnt to say i didnt smoke pot at 16, but thats besides the point.

she can probably expect to be grounded for a long time... which means no fun, but her life is far from over.

wait is her mom a cop?

why would her parents turn her in to the authorities?

she'll get a slap on the wrist as a first time offense. a dime bag is definately not intent to distribute.

but i think this changes from state to state (anyone know for sure?)

she'll be upset and bummed out either way.

i suggest that no matter the outcome, if she still wants to pick up dime bags, she probably should A) not keep it at her house and B) perhaps not pick up dime bags anymore, or at least for a long time.

it'd be hard for the cops to prove that its her weed and not her moms if they don't find anything in her room. If for some reason she gets arrested she is gonna be slapped on the wrist, a dime bag is nothing. She is massivly over reacting to the situation and should go back home and face the music

I should have been more clear. She did not "run away" because of this situation. She's been discussing moving out for about two months now, even with her mother. She agreed to give it one week the other day before she finally did so, but just left today, probably over some blow-up not involving this.

Why didn't I meet girls like this in high school? Oh yeah, because I was/am a dork, that's why. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Um... let's see: re: the pictures.

1) destroy that HD. It's not a good idea to have them. Don't reformat, actually take the HD apart, and dispose of it. You can do it in front of them if you want. There's programs out there that will clean a drive, but I don't know of any. But yeah, destroy that drive, copying all essential files over to another drive, reinstall the o/s, etc. It's pretty embarassing for her I bet, so if I were a parent I wouldn't punish her for it, but I'd have a good long talk about why it's retarded to do that at her age.

Re: the dime.

Well, no comment I guess. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Edit: and as far as what she can expect to happen to her, that just depends on her parents. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Heh. She's not a pothead or anything, she hasn't even smoked in 2 months. The weed was her brother's, which she had bought for him. (This isn't some lame excuse she tried to pawn off on me, I'm close to the situation.)

I firmly believe that this would not be a problem at all if her mom was different. Not to say my friend's not at fault or anything, but this situation just didn't come from what I've mentioned so far. It's been brewing for around 3 years now.

Tell her to go to her mom, apologise, and do whatever it takes to be forgiven.

Then tell her to suck it up and live a clean life till she's 18 (no pot, sex, blowjobs, etc). When she turns 18 she can do whatever the [censored] she likes. She will be a better person for it and enjoy her independence a lot more.

Just tell her to stay the hell away from her crazy mom.

Los Feliz Slim

Safe to assume there is no father involved?

Obviously, the pot and the nudity and the semi-incestual cheating are symptoms of much larger issues. Make sure she knows that just because her family is crap (just making assumptions based on what you've said, maybe they're fine people) it doesn't mean she's crap as well. It's not her fault and she's not doomed to failure. The best way to get back at her mother would be to get her [censored] together and live a happy, fulfilling life and raise children in a better manner than her mother did.

And I'm sure the cops would be much more interested in the age of the guy that was [censored] her than a dime bag.

This thread sucks. Not funny at all. The drama element is incredibly [censored] weak too. Tell your friend to get some real problems and to cross the legal threshold of adulthood, and then come back and make a post that doesn't suck.

I was having sex and smoking weed by the time I was 16. My parents were definitely relaxed about the whole thing, though, and it wasn't a big deal.

Anyway, there's a > 90% chance she never lives with her mom ever again. She only has one year a high school left before she leaves for college (fully paid for by her dad).

even if her mom calls the cops...which she most likely will not...they will do absolutely nothing about it, except maybe tell the mom to raise her own child.

the real issue is her smoking weed. weed is a lot different than it was 10 years ago. it affects the psyche of a teenager in such a bad way that it simply isn't worth the buzz you get or the social acceptance you gain from using it. you really should do some research on the subject and try to talk this girl into quitting that habit. it could seriously lead to some major problems.

BTW, i'm not, overall, anti-marijuana. i've smoked it as recently as this June myself actually. the difference is, i'm 33 years old. i also smoked som when i was a teen, but again, much of today's strains of wed are much more powerful and generally affect moods and self esteem much more negatively...a recipe for disaster for 16 year olds.

(as for the nude pics, she shouldn't be doing that either. does she want to be a porn star or what? guarantee she will regret that.)

cheers!
