I don't think the pot is really ever big enough to get too involved on that flop. I'd just check behind and if the river brings a blank then perhaps call a bet for value and/or bet out to just take the chips then.

Once you make that dumb probe bet I think you gotta fold to a raise (which is the main problem with it anyway).

I think the bet is fine. Often I will open limp on the button and if it's checked to me I will bet to pick up the dead chips regardless of my hand. Here you have a hand and that board is likely scary for anyone else in the hand, so a bet is fine. Of course fold to the raise.

If you were called, I would check the turn and fold to any further action (unimproved, of course.)
