Just out of curiousity (and boredom) I thought I'd test out some of the major search engine results when 'online poker' (without the quotes) is entered. I am somewhat surprised at the money pacific and especially rivieriagold? must be spending on these sponsored links.

Golden Riviera, that is a bit of a surprise. I do have their client, but it's just one of the combined MicroGaming rooms, and when I downloaded it it deleted my Golden Tiger Poker client I think.

Does this explain the higher fish ratio at Pacific Poker compare to other small-med range sites out there? /forums/images/icons/cool.gif

well you would notice paradise is listed first
in search results online poker.

957,000 sites contain something about online poker

now go search for (poker) 5,867,000 sites
contain that ever popular word and
paradise number one there also.

search for (texas holdem poker) paradise
number one there.

search for (7 card stud poker) paradise
number one there.

paradise number one in any search you can think
of that is related to the word poker
so I think they get first crack.

that is why paradise will always have the most
online players.

Why, if Paradise Poker is the first link to come up in a search engine, does it have the seemingly toughest games online.

I'm sure there are a lot if not the most fish on Paradise, for the above reasoning that it is the first one to come up, why would the ratio of good player to fish be higher than at any other location?

The reverse is also apparent, the new sites, and small sites, seem to have the highest ratio of bad players.

The only reason I see, and I know others will have a better idea, is that fish join up to any site they find with little regard for whether it is popular/proven. Good players will stick to the places where they will get their money back the quickest. So fish play at all sites at similar numbers, good players play at big sites more often.

Am I right in my reasoning here?

Hey Hey,

I got the perfect answer for you!

Why do new sites and not so popular sites have the
biggest fish online you ask?

One simple reason usually new sites and smallers sites
have freerolls for them to win free money since they have
never made it as a poker player they need to win free money to be able to play with the real players. Of course another
reason people play freerolls is that they not old enough to gamble in first place or just dont have the money. So smaller sites and not so popular sites tend to offer this.

Also smaller sites and newer ones tend to give the best promotions online trying to attract the players. So the fish in online poker need all the extra money they can get to try to survive in the games, so they would prefer to go to a new and small site /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

But paradise will always have the new players, there is just so many players there you just got to look for the right game thats going on.

New sites have bigger fish, because the market they have to start with are the fish.

Many are casinos that have opened a poker room and their customers "fancy a go" at another gambling game.

You would be pretty weird if you opened a poker room now, and your primary starting target were other site's customers.

(That might well be a close second target, but you need people to play your site because they haven't seen online poker before to get you going.. I believe this is where 24h falls down. It is certainly not through lack of effort.
Get some games going, then pinch the regular players when they can see you have games)

Since they are the fifth largest search engine according to Nielsen I thought I'd include them too.

Interesting that Steve Badger's site made the top of the web results list but ask is the only search engine that I've ever seen pull it up.
