Seems like a nice breakout from the recent base and a nice uptrend overall. On the other hand, it's approaching the high from Dec 04. Holding it is gambling that the previous high will be taken out versus a one year double top...

One approach would be to sell half now and wait with the other half.

I would drop this in a second. Not because you're ahead, but because this is not a good company. It's not profitable this year, and may be somewhat profitable next year (forward P/E around 40, which is high). I don't see any reason why its prospects would improve in the next 5 years at least--it's still going to be second-place to Intel in an industry where prices go down every year.

There are just much better opportunities out there, there's no reason to hold AMD.

I have only one question...

What was YOUR PLAN when you enterred the trade?

If you are a value investor, you would try to figure out what the true value of the company is, and sell at or above the true market value.

If you don't want to do the calculations yourself, then see if there is some service which publishes a per share valuation.

If you own GOOG and think it is only worth $50 per share in the long run, then you may want to sell if the market price is now $300 per share.

i think the poker players that post here are more knowledgeable than any of the other internet spots. plus poker players are good at thinking about things from the right perspective. this is where i would look for advice to make my own informed decision from.

1. Go to the local barns and nobles and purchase the "how to make money in stock" book by william oneil.

2. Read the chapter on the 20 points on when to sell the stock.

Are you using stops?

"If you don't like math or don't want to spend time weekly reviewing your investments, this book is probably not for you."

yea definitliy not for me.

this is more like a "hold'em poker for advnaced players" when what i really need is "winning low limit hold'em" by lee jones. maybe i should pick up investing for dummies

Cramer gave AMD a thumbs-up tonight (sort of). Said the stock is good, but not the company.

If Dell would ever agree to use their CPUs the stock would go to the moon.

I bought AMD at 4 and sold at 7 about 2 years ago. If only I woulda kept it....

If you could count to 100 and read at a 6th grade level... get the book... Trust be about the sell points...it saved me alot of money in the crash of 2000.
