View Full Version : Hand critique please

09-08-2005, 03:42 AM
Hey All,
I hit a king on the flop, and I was willing to stake my stack that thas was the best hand. I bet 225 on the flop to either get a fold, or for the flush to see the next card. The 500 bet is where I think I screwed up. I bet 500 to either get a fold from a flush, but then when the guy went all-in, I was too far into the hand, and I decided to gamble. I don't think I played this terribly at all, but anyone have any critique on my thought processes? and the hand?

Thanks,
Shooby /images/graemlins/smile.gif

What flush? What are you really scared of here? You're HU with the BB 3 handed. Top pair is basically the nuts.

Just get your money in the pot on that flop if at all possible.

I guess I don't like the turn card but, meh, I'm not gonna worry too much about gettin allin. Otherwise your other line would be to check/fold the turn and that's obscene.

It's possible that your small bets are indicating weakness and he is trying to bully you out of the pot with 2nd/3rd pair. I'd call. Top pair is a beast 3 handed.

Yeh, I figured that the king was good, but I didn't want to push, because then I only win the blinds, and I was trying to get alot more. Maybe I should have just pushed on the flop?

With top pair 3 handed, you should look to take down a nice pot and/or just extract chips from middle pair/ace high/weak pair, b/c all of those types of hands will be willing to rumble.

It's hard to extract tons of chips post flop 3 handed b/c generally you don't see many flops, so when you do see a favorable one I see no problem allowing worse hands to pay you off (feining weakness, value checking, value calling, etc).

Think of it this way, if she showed up at your door, wouldn't you want to extract maximal value? Or would you just shove allin immediately?! /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Why didn't you raise preflop?

09-08-2005, 07:16 AM
Because I'm still trying to figure out the game, and alot of the times I'm not sure what to do when I raise a hand like this and miss the flop. Plus, I'm not sure How much to raise? You think I should really be raising K6o?
I don't know. I definately have alot of learning still to do, that's for sure. /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Calling preflop is just fine. Betting the flop is fine. Betting the turn is fine, although I would lean towards folding to the raise. I would also lean towards checking the turn, and perhaps check raising depending on my opponent's action. Your hand no longer has very much value against anyone but a lunatic.

The above is in conjunction with the fact that I will check and fold to a raise on the turn however. If I planned to call the turn raise as you did, then I prefer betting.
