i searched for soundtrack but didn't find any previous threads on this. what's the best film soundtrack in your opinion?

btw, no fair using Dark Side of the Moon as the soundtrack for wizzard of oz, as it wasn't the original.

for me, it's soundtrack to Reservoir Dogs and Queen's soundtrack for the Highlander.

edit : also probably should stick to movies, rather than tv series.

Grosse Point Blank is very good.

I always like the soundtracks to Jim Jarmusch movies, although they are often bizarre. They work very well in the context of the movie.

But my favorite has got to be Six String Samurai (with music by the Red Elvises).

My number 1:Score from The Crow

Soundtrack from Crow is good, too
Lost in Translation
City of Angels
Dazed and Confused
Star Wars...especially Episode IV b/c of binary sunset music
Wedding Crashers is actually pretty good
Cruel Intentions
Magnolia
all Tarantino movies, since Tarantino is the pop culture master
Almost Famous
High Fidelity

Daredevil might have appeared here, if not being completed made redundant by the Evanescence album...which would be in my top five albums list.

And lastly...
The Big Lebowski
(See them tumblin' down...pledging their love to the ground)

James Boston

Several I enjoy...

1) Goodfellas
2) Office Space
3) Pulp Fiction
4) Reservior Dogs
5) Dazed and Confused
6) Swingers
7) High Fidelity
8) The Big Lebowski

Honorable Mention to Old School and Wonderland. I don't think either were released to CD, but both had very good soundtracks that complemented the film.

As far as non-song instrumental soundtracks, some good ones have been mentioned already. Off the top of my head, I would add Superman (1), Jaws, Out of Africa, Cape Fear, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Slingblade, the Matrix, the Godfather, and 2001: a Space Odyssey.

The Committments and The Blues Brothers are good answers. Also, Eddie and The Cruisers.

The soundtracks from "Streets of Fire" and "Crossroads" are really good, as well as the Ry Cooder scores from the same movies. Other great Ry Cooder scores include "Paris, Texas", "The Long Riders", and "Last Man Standing."

Once again, I must agree with Swede. What's interesting about the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack is that it was actually composed by two guys after the first was kicked off/left the project.

Glad to see that other heterosexual males actually dig this one. The Trevor Jones work far exceeds the Randy Edelman on this, too.

Some other fine soundtracks of note include Rocky IV, Flash Gordon, The Empire Strikes Back, and more recently, Revenge of the Sith.

Eh. Fast does not = good. Cooder's playing sounded like real music you could dance to. Vai's was a bunch of showing off. Fast fingertaps w/o much melody doesn't impress me. I thought Vai had his ass handed to him even before the classical bit. I'd take Ry Cooder over Steve Vai any day and twice on Sunday, though, so I'm probably a bit biased. /images/graemlins/grin.gif
