"Fleming and Astle PWNing India"

...title of a thread in rec.sports.cricket to describe the drubbing of the Indian bowlers by Kiwi opening batsmen Stephen Fleming and Nathan Astle in a cricket match the other day...

I thought PWNing was a term endemic to 2+2.

So anyway, what words - if any - belong to 2+2'ers and only 2+2'ers?

pwning is a gaming term, not a 2+2 term.

i think donk betting and the sexy are the only ones...

I think donk-betting probably counts....but donks or donkeys is definitely OUTSIDE the 2+2 realm.

brown trout and sup-bro (in 2+2 context) and all-county 95 (also in 2+2 context).

The one that is big these days is the acronym YSSCKY which I am guessing is isolated to just 2+2.

this is our shame.

I just learned about "the sexy" yesterday and I hate it with the fire of like several things that are hot.

Hey Sid,

My understanding is that the term originated from some online game. Someone wanted to type "owned", but mis-typed it as "pwned" and it got popular and spread from there.

it's not an acronym unless you pronounce it "fip." It's only an acronym if the letters form another word like FEMA or NAMBLA. Otherwise, it's an initialism. Acronyms being a subset of initialisms.

FYP (first time I've seen that was here too)

I would guess it's an abbreviation for nitwit and thus not an acronym or initialism. Just like donk is an abbreviation for donke. These are just my guesses. Someone correct me (that's like asking Phil Hellmuth to whine when he loses) if I'm wrong.

I would guess nitpicker in your case.

Yep, good call. I wasn't looking at the context, just thinking about some "nit" calling when they clearly shouldn't have.

I still prefer gaybetting, although I now think of "donking" when I think of that play.
