I don't mean wife or girlfriend.

I mean gambling partner... bankroll partner... best friend... something of that nature.

Anyone know?

I believe he was bankrolled by a "partner" in his last few WSOP attempts, including his 3rd win. Apparently, he was dead broke every time th WSOP rolled around from excessive gambling and drug usage.

He had a very close friend named "Victor" (I can't think of his last name at the moment) but he bankrolled Stuey throughout most of his life after his father died. When he moved to Vegas he had plenty of backers after he won the WSOP back to back years. Mostly being Billy Baxter but after his drug use got out of control almost everyone of his backers including Baxter left him.

I believe Billy Baxter was his most frequent backer, though he had several throughout his career.

High Roller - the stu ungar movie discusses the backer in detail, although im not sure how accurate the movie is. Overall the movie kinda sucks and michael imperiolli is disappointing though.

I thought it was alright. Although the whole mysterious interview throughout the movie was a bit confusing. I guess it was supposed to be his "demons".

George Roberts was an absolutely phenomenal bass trombone player that my favorite drinking buddy likes to drone on about. Perhaps I should find a new drinking buddy.

Michael I. has never disappointed me. Not even in Stuey.

I thought the movie wasn't that good, but it wasn't terrible.

The Angle of Death is precisely 52.5 degrees. You can look it up.

Did Bob Stupak bankroll him at all?

I thought I heard Mike Sexton say that somewhere.

If you haven't read "One of a Kind : The Rise and Fall of Stuey "The Kid" Ungar, The World's Greatest Poker Player" you're missing out. It will not only give the answer to your question (yes, he was backed at times - often by people with mob ties) but is a phenomenal read. Really great book.

I never knew him to have a best friend in the sense that it was reciprocal.

Does that imply you knew him as a person? If so, what were the circumstances?

Reason I asked.

A random guy claimed to me that he was "partners" with Stuey back in the day.

This was not in a casino, and we had not been talking about poker at all previously.

In fact, he had no idea that I play poker at all. I was buying a motorcycle from him and he brought it up randomly.

I'm quite sure he's full of crap, but it's a random thing to lie about, no?
