View Full Version : When to get a new monitor?

In about 10 days or so my poker roll will be around $1100 (bonii + rakeback). I'm finally getting around to playing 22's. I'm very risk averse.

Anyways, at what point should I sell my current monitor (non 16x12) and get two monitors that can handle 16x12? Also, where are the best deals for 2001fp's? Because those are the ones I am looking for.

I know this basically boils down to a budget question, but I have to believe everyone here who is playing 2 monitors of 33's and higher has had to deal with this, umm, "conundrum" before.

Suggestions comments or anything appreciated.

My BR also just hit $1,100 (After buying an ipod, books, fathers day present the last couple months)

I decided since I had an excellent late-August run I would reward myself with a 2001FP to go alongside my gigantic 19" CRT (plan to 8-table.) I haven't received it yet, hasn't even gone "in production"- what's everyone's experience with dell's shipping?

Since my monitor was $545 shipped (wow, raped by tax + california monitor tax) if you don't need an LCD you could get two 19" CRTs for around 500-600.. make sure they run 1600x1200 though. If not, I would only get one 2001FP for now as they are expensive.. and be prepared to move down. I just had a 9 buyin drop that I was luckily able to recover by a nice live casino night.

Judging from the average age @ *STTF-HUC* and average "cool-factor" = most 2+2'er's don't know what a "conundrum" is and/or have never had a chance to use one /images/graemlins/confused.gif

Why not just get one dell to start with.

Dell delivers on time.

u can get a 21" dell trinitron CRT that can handle 1600x1200 easily for 150-200

if u have the desk space, then save the money and go CRT

... and cause eye strain. I have high eye pressure and wear rx glasses and contacts (not at the same time, lol). I have noticed when I play eight hours on my CRT, the eyes start fighting with me. No worries during an eight hour session on my 17" Flat Panel LCD. I then looked into the whole CRT vs. LCD arguments and found plenty of mixed opinions. I settled it by going to my optometrist after using a CRT for one week and my eye pressure was very high. I discussed this with her and after getting a glare screen for my CRT, it still was high. I then started using my LCD for one week, went back and the pressure had decreased.

Based on these findings, I just purchased a Samsung 204t not only for the well-being & health of my eyes, but as I am now comfortable multi-tabling to the point where I want to do it in a serious capacity with no overlap, as I am experiencing on my 17". I'll probably get another next month or the month after if I feel comfortable with eight tabling.

Did not mean to hijack your thread, but poker aside. Consider your eyes. As they go, the world goes.

fwiw CRTs are able to display images at sharper resolutions which should result in less eye strain.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe an LCD will display just as sharply as a CRT as long as the LCD is running at its native resolution.

So a LCD that has a native res of 1600x1200 will display just as sharply as a CRT. But if you decrease the LCD to 800x600 and do the same on the CRT, the CRT will have the sharper resolution.

I put away small amounts of money each week over the summer and actually managed to get $600 together.

I ordered my first 2001FP on Friday, cost me about $536 including shipping and taxes -- already shipped and almost here. It's supposed to be here tomorrow.

I had a chance to work with 2 monitors over the summer, and its a great thing. But there's no need to put your bankroll at risk just so you can 8-table immediately.

I'm going to start using the 2001FP as my main monitor, sell the CRT (21" also) I have, sell some old books, couple pieces of hardware, etc, and then buy the second 2001FP in about a month. There's no rush, the speculated `end of online poker` isn't as close as they make it out to be, so don't sweat it, and buy one at a time.

Plus, Dell goes on crazy sales 1-2 times a year where you can get a 2001FP shipped for $375-$450, according to rumors. So it doesn't hurt to wait. At all.

Good luck /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I really don't feel like searching, so would you mind just linking the post where you said you definitely wouldn't be playing poker your first semester at school.

Took me 2 weeks to realize I could balance both easily. About every single one of my college friends told me it would happen, and I didn't believe them.

If you are inciting I'm going to burn in hell, yes, probably. Moving on...

"conundrum"

[/ QUOTE ]

This was never a conundrum for me. Both of my 2001fp's were purchased from my BR. This question almost reminds me of the "Should I quit my job and go pro" posts. If you have to ask, you probably shouldn't buy it.

lol...never thought about it that way before but I agree. When I decided to get my 2nd monitor it was a very easy decision. My BR was very comfortable and I had become insanely bored playing 4 tables. The money meant very little to my bankroll and I was very ready to add more tables.

I am in the same boat as you (played the 22s for a while).

I just bought one today, and am moving back down to the $11s til i get back up to about $800 or so.

IM me if you're interested in buddying up...

that is pretty funny, that was almost the exact order of my purchases with poker money.

Next should be laptop, mother-gift, and diamond earings for the GF.

I just ordered two Dells. Even with 20% off they cost $775 here in Sweden. /images/graemlins/mad.gif But I guess the money is better spent on monitors than sitting in my Neteller account.

Hey Clayton...
purely a coincidence becuase we normally only ever offer Cash prizes but this month we are offering a del 2001fp monitor for finishing top of the leaderboard on one of our rooms!

As i say...just a coincidence

best wishes
