Live 10/20 in NYC this past weekend. First time playing at this location; this is my third orbit at the table. EMP has played every hand, the button has played every other.

EMP limps, I raise A/images/graemlins/spade.gifT/images/graemlins/spade.gif in the HJ, Button calls, BB calls, EMP calls. (9 SBs)

Flop: Q/images/graemlins/spade.gifJ/images/graemlins/heart.gif8/images/graemlins/diamond.gif
BB checks, EMP checks, I bet, Button raises, BB 3-bets, EMP folds, I ?

Fold

I would probably cold-call, actually.

It's an uncomfortable situation, though, because you're basically hoping for a miracle card or at least to pick up a flush draw. And if Button doesn't slow down, picking up a flush draw on the turn would in fact be sort of a mixed blessing.

In any event, I don't like capping. I doubt our overcard is worth much of anything. I suppose BB could have KT, but I think two pair, a set, or a straight is much more likely.

Edit: Ugh. I missed the double-gutter. So, anyway, I don't think we're looking for a miracle so much anymore, but I do think we're often chopping if we catch a 9.

I still like just calling. I prefer capping to folding, though.

With a double-gutter and BD-nut draw, why not just call?

Easy call. 4 outs to the nuts. 4 more to a very probable winner. Turn might also add a nut flush draw.

Easy cold call. You're getting 8-1 if it doesn't get capped and 6-1 if it does. You have something like 9 outs.

I'd raise if I could get a free card or get button to fold, but I don't see either of those two things happening.

Cap it and then raise any spade turn.

I'm a bit skeptical of charging yourself to draw.

Knocking an opponent out even though we're drawing to something like a 45% draw kind of sucks, 3-way after a bet/call situation I like a raise.

What are you trying to achieve with a cap and/or a turn raise? I'm having a hard time seeing how you're doing anything but charging yourself extra to draw but I'm willing to be educated.

I see the merits of cold-calling as far as costing me less to draw, but I felt that if I maintained some agression I might be able to fold the button out on the turn. So, I capped, and both called. The plan was, as mentioned by somebody in this thread, to raise any spade turn. The turn was not a spade, it was a 4/images/graemlins/heart.gif and BB checked to me, I bet, both called. The river was the J/images/graemlins/spade.gif and BB bet, I folded, button called "to keep him honest." BB showed QJ for the flopped two pair, rivered boat. Button decided to show his AA.
