I took the wife and a couple of friends to Quebec City. We flew out on Friday and returned on Sunday. I was very impressed with the food (Steaks, Seafood and LOTS of Poutine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poutine)) , culture (they closed some roads downtown for car traffic and had a pretty cool array of street performers) and architecture (We were told that Quebec City is the second oldest city in North America - I don't know which is the oldest) - simply a very cool place to hang out for a weekend. Who would have thunk that you could visit Paris in North America?

So, what did you do?

No. However, they will be paying for my work trip to Vegas next week. I was working to get stuff done before I go. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hosted a BBQ on Monday. Some of the guests insisted on playing p***r so I ended up ahead money, some beer, and 10 pounds of marinated flank steak.

I'm going to eat very well over the next few days.

Some [censored] who lives across from me complained about the noise at 4:30pm. On a [censored] _holiday_. But aside from that all went well.

nursed my new tattoo, watched some movies (manhattan, the wild bunch, and once upon a time in america), played a lot of halo 2, bought some sweet new sheets, worked, and did a shitload of laundry.

yeah, a really jet-set lifestyle.

Surfed, BBQ, visited the G-mom in the hospital, hooked up with a girl from work...quite eventful.

Spend 8 hours friday at the auto dealership, getting my car fixed. Ate, visited a national park, pregger sex, watched some tube, caught up on sleep. Pretty weak.

[/ QUOTE ]I've never been to Paris, but Montreal is the second largest (population) French speaking city in the world. Quebec is much smaller, but also much more charming. If you haven't been to either, you are definitely missing out.

Played in the New York State Chess Championship. Got 3 draws, two wins, and one loss. The loss was to an 11 year old ( /images/graemlins/blush.gif ) who was having the tournament of his life, and went on to play Gata Kamsky in the last round for the title (Kamsky won it).

See that is the crazy part - I used to live in Montreal as a kid so I knew all about the French and the good food. But I have never been to Quebec city before and it is a whole different world. All in all, I can only summarize it by saying that I had more that one opportunity to be surprised that I am paying with local (Canadian) currency, simply because the "feel" of the place is very different than other Canadian cities I visited. I just had to keep reminding myself I was only a 90 minute flight from home and not on the other side of the ocean.

I had to work Saturday, went to a White Sox game Sunday(beer, polish with grilled onions, and a win), then won $207 playing some live 10-20. Monday was a BBQ at mom's with the family. I have today off so my weekend is still going, but I don't have anything planned.
