First option would be to hitch a ride on someones wireless network if you can find one.

May I ask where you are staying in Florence? A lot of my family still lives there.

Florence is an awesome city, which I did not get to spend nearly enough time in. Drink some wine, eat a ton, and give the interweb a rest for a month. Chase women. Unless to are looking for access to earn $, in which case I can't help you, other than a large hotel (of which there aren't any that I recall).

I think DirecWay (http://hns.getdway.com/HNS/Rooms/DisplayPages/LayoutInitial?pageid=dwayhome7000&Container=com.we bridge.entity.Entity[OID[91908CBE85AD4C428CCD8D5CDB016B51) may be your only option.

I'm pretty certain that DIRECWAY will not work in Europe - you can't "see" the satellite. Also, if their service is as slow as their website, it's useless . . .

A GPRS card will provide you with a fairly fast connection, but the catch is "pay almost anything". As far as I know, this would cost somewhere between $15-30 per megabyte with no all-you-can-eat options.
