Button had been relatively tight. Not very tight, just tight-ish. BB, on the other hand, was relatively loose. Again, not extremely so, but on the loose side.

Edit: I should also add that:

1) The blinds have just gone up like 1 hand ago
2) The bubble also just burst

The big problem with A3 is that no matter what the other guy has, you are never a big favourite.

But with 3xBB his raising range must be big. Hard hand because I would hate to fold and have the BB fold also. I probably call most of the time here.

This is one that on reflection I might fold, but in the heat of battle the following might happen.

1. I see I have an A
2. Oh look the BB is 600, everyone loosens up a bit when the blinds get this big, Oh look I have you covered, Oh look I have an A, FU I call.

On further reflection this is an autocall.

From the looks of the other replies, I have probably been missing opportunities here. No one seems concerned they might be playing for all their chips with A-junk.

Apparently the A alone is good enough three handed with the blinds this big?

i too think i agree with you, my first reaction was fold. but i guess the point of the call is the pot odds offered (in addition to the pushers range)

That's because you're not. You're risking less than 40% of your stack on a hand which figures to be a favorite against his huge range, with very high blinds that don't allow for much play, getting nearly 2-1 on the call.
