I have a noisy suitemate in the room next to mine and I like to study in my room. He plays his music very loud and really enjoys doing it so I would rather not ask him to turn it down. However, I am very bad at concentrating on studying when there is music going on.

So. I want those sound canceling headphones. The question is: has anybody here tried them? would they be able to cancel out loud music?

Noise reducing headphones help to cancel out white noise - making it easier to hear your own music on an airplane, for instance.

You're looking for earplugs.

If you don't like the earplug idea, why not just listen to some neutral music like new age nature stuff through headphones to see if that would do it. Otherwise, the back stacks in the library are the ideal study place.

If your "mate" has any respect for you he will turn it down if you ask him. Best solution.

you don't want the noise canceling ones. however, you do want some noise reducing ones. I have etymotic er6is and they're great. if you want to throw down a few extra bills the er4ps are just outstanding. also, try shure e3cs. those will provide some fantastic sound quality and help reduce outside noise as well.
