It was on TNT tonight. I defintiely think it is the best movie of the 90s. Anyone agree? Disagree? Let's hear your thoughts.

Watched it the other night. I completely agree. I think it will go down as one of the great classics in movie history after many years have passed.

Definitely one of my favorites.

even if you don't have the best taste in collars, Poboy, you like good movies.

Forrest Gump is one of my all-time favorites. I used to know the script pretty well, but haven't seen it in a while

I'm pretty sure it's the only movie that has ever made me cry, and it continues to do so upon every viewing, so that must be worth something. I love this movie.

One of the only movies I ever cried at. As far as best films of the 90's I think it is up there but I prefer Pulp Fiction.

First of all, my taste in collar fashion reigns supreme (remind me to post pictures of me and my plaid jacket).

Second of all, when I was watching the movie today, I realized just how political it was, and how much I had missed when I first watched it when I was younger.

So correct, IMO, Rocky did more to end communism than Reagan, Gorbachev and JPII combined.

the part that usually gets me in Forrest Gump is when he's talking to Jenny at her grave about little Forrest and he gets choked up when he says how smart he is. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

His legs are STRONG Ms. Gump, as strong as I've ever seen! But his back is as crooked as a politician!

there are actually a ton of parts of it that get me, but it's definitely that bond between Forrest and Bubba that seemed the like most emotional part of it.

The part at Jenny's grave gets me too, though.

So do a whole bunch of parts of the movie.

Man, I'm getting a little teary just thinking about it.

Good movie?

Let's just say, when I first saw it, I was in Portland on business. We went and saw it one night during the week.

After I saw the movie, I had an incredible urge to see my mother, who at the time lived in Auburn.

The movie let out at about 11:00pm and I immediately took a cab to the airport, rented a car and went to go see her. Needless to say, I was a little late to the metting the next day...

I'm not sure why, but that movie really got to me.

It is a great movie, but IMHO it's only the third best movie of that year. Pulp Fiction & Shawshank Redemption were each released in 1994 also. Gump did win the best picture oscar that year however.

I noticed something I never saw before yesteday while watching FG. The part where he's doing the interview next to John Lennon, Lennon says the following: "No possessions? No religion too?" Then the show host says something like "That's hard to imagine." Lennon responds "It's easy if you try..."

How many people noticed these are the lyrics from Lennon's Imagine?

Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
then the world can live as one.

It's good but definitely not the best. It has a good soundtrack though.

Also, Haley Joel Osment was as gay then as he ever was.

Rdogs was good, but not Pulp Fiction good (yes I realize Pulp Fiction came out after it). And Heat? I don't think so. Just because it had Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro doesn't mean it was good. Certainly not one of the best movies of the 90s.

Clearly the answer to the OP is The Shawshank Redemption. Who hasn't seen this movie 10 times?

Forrest Gump is one of the most over-rated films ever. Hanks was excellent, as he always is, but the script is just painful; it's as if the writers were gathered around a table, plotting out which heartstrings to strum, and what order to present the cliches in. From memory, let's see what we have:

1. A retarded man. (check!) People love retards. Remember that show with Corky? Who could hate the protagonist - HE'S RETARDED BUT HE MEANS WELL.

2. A cripple. Preferably a war vet. (Double check!) "I'm proud to be an American! Where at least I know I'm free..." It's like watching a GW Bush press op. Ugh.

3. Racial tension/racism. (check!) Who better than a mentally disabled person and/or a little kid to teach us about the problems of racism. We are brilliant, I tell ya!

4. Cancer. (Check!) Who isn't anti-cancer??? This thing is a slam dunk, boys.

5. AIDS. (check!) Sweet. If we get somebody to die of AIDS, people will love this movie for sure.

I could go on, but I need to go vomit now.

When he asks if his son is like him or if he's smart.. saddest part in the entire movie. I have it on DVD, I think I'll watch it later.
