View Full Version : AKo - Correct play?

No reads on MP. My main questions here - Am I too aggressive on the flop? And is calling down correct here, or am I beaten too often?

Absolute Poker 0.25/0.50 Hold'em (5 handed) converter (http://www.selachian.com/tools/bisonconverter/hhconverter.cgi)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with A/images/graemlins/spade.gif, K/images/graemlins/club.gif. MP posts a blind of $0.25.
<font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, MP (poster) calls, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, BB calls.

Flop: (6.40 SB) 6/images/graemlins/spade.gif, K/images/graemlins/heart.gif, Q/images/graemlins/heart.gif <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
BB checks, <font color="#CC3333">Hero bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">MP raises</font>, BB folds, <font color="#CC3333">Hero 3-bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">MP caps</font>, Hero calls.

Looks like he made 2 pair with KQ or possibly hit a set. I can't be sure though, with no reads.

Turn: (6.70 BB) 4/images/graemlins/club.gif <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
Hero checks, <font color="#CC3333">MP bets</font>, Hero calls.

River: (8.70 BB) Q/images/graemlins/diamond.gif <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
Hero checks, <font color="#CC3333">MP bets</font>, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 10.70 BB

sometimes i will just call the flop raise and lead the turn, but i will also play exactly like you did often.

and you can't fold... not with this being his first hand with you.

Id play preflop/flop the same way.

Id be tempted to fold the turn, but with no read i dont think i do, and check/call it down.

I like you flop play. You have a good, but vulnerable hand. Villian will 3 bet a lot of aces here and maybe even a flush draw. You want to fold everyone you can and make the flush draws pay you while you are ahead.

I would bet the turn. That 4 is no scare card at all. The Q on the river is scary, but you have to call.

I checkraise the turn and fold to a 3 bet.

I think you played it just right. You can't fold here with no read on this guy. He could easily have a K with a worse kicker.

hero bet the flop and was raised. at that point the hand was heads-up and he had no one to "fold." also, the villain didn't 3-bet the flop - he capped.

This is good against most opponents, but bad against a lag.

Exactly; and we don't know if this guy's a LAG yet.

Looks good to me. I don't think you're too aggressive on the flop, you want to three-bet a player who maye raising trying to get a free card with a flush draw.

The river card sucks, but I think you have to call getting almost 10:1.

Why would you do this against an unknown? Maybe he's a postflop maniac...c/c and then c/c, again, you get a showdown for the same price and get to learn something about your opp.

I don't think the river card changes anything. In fact, it might have won us the hand. (vs. K6) It's a rare player who caps this flop vs. a PFR with only a Q.
