HOw do they choose who will be the Chief Justice?

On MSNBC now...

This ought to be interesting. Let's hope that the new 2 justices are a little more competent than some other recent Bush appointees

While his vote counts for the same value, he gets to assign who writes the decisions whenever he is in the majority (he is top in seniority automatically)

He has managerial duties for the entire judiciary (a big impact on how things are run, dealings with Congress on budgets, proposing new judgeships, etc.)

Same as with Roberts:

Bush nominates a person.
Democrats in the Senate complain about the nominee.
Republicans in the Senate confirm the nominee.
The nominee gets sworn in.

LOL. I think it is more accurate to say, no one can tell him not to add stripes to his robe.

Another special CJ duty: preside over Presidential Impeachment trials, which Rehnquist did in 1999.

I'm torn.

My right feels like crowing, "Sorry, hippies!" Bush will appoint another one!

My left knows that Civil Asset Forfeiture will never be overturned now.

The story was that she said would wait until for a republican to retire when Clinton was president. When Bush was elected (the first time), it was questioned if she respected how he would choose because she choose not to retire. She was much more liberal than Bush. She has said that she has been disappointed by Bush's choice in nominee.

Because some young people strive to be really rich and think that being a Republican will help them achieve that persona. They just want to be like a "young, rich Republican". They will even change their views to go along with this. It's pretty ridiculous actually.

"Without a thought" seems a good enough explanation.

The appointment of a new justice does nothing to change the makeup of the court. Rehnquist's replacement will most certainly be an extreme conservative, which changes nothing. O'Connor's resignation affects the court much more.

Goodbye, Roe...

Maybe because I'm religious and thats the top priority for me so when making decisions thats a big factor. Or because I'm clueless I cant remember, you ignorant moron. I dont say how is anyone a democrat even though I disagree with the majority of their issues.

Any young conservative is heartless.

Any old liberal is brainless.

Just to clarify, I'm a young liberal, plan on being an old liberal and plan on someday being a VERY old liberal.
