This disaster has inspired me to give some money to the Salvation Army and the Red Cross. In the future, I would like to be more informed about the organizations to which I give money.

To which organizations do you donate? Which charities are most efficient in getting the most money to the people? Which organization will give me the best bang for my buck? If you have a favorite charity or a least favorite charity list it here and provide explanations.

So far, I've been most impressed with the Salvation Army. The head of the organization was on the ground in New Orleans trying to help people. I've also heard him talk on TV and he really seems passionate about what he does.

I hate the Salvation Army. Every experience I've ever had dealing with them has been bad. I give to the Red Cross. But most of the things I give to are for children specifically.

I've worked for the Salvation Army. If you donate anything truly valuable, don't expect it will actually make it into the hands of the truly needy. They're as non-profit as any other Christian organization. Trust me, God does not need that much money.

In general or for Katrina relief?

In general I donate to OXFAM, UNICEF, and various other political organizations I don't feel like listing because I know I'll get flamed for it.

For Katrina relief - I donated blood first. Now I am "donatinig" my condo as temporary housing for a displaced family member. I gave a small amount to Red Cross and plan to give more in the form of volunteering.
